President’s Message
After such a long, cold winter, we’re all very happy to have spring finally arrive, and with it, the Ontario Community Newspapers Association’s Better Newspapers Competition awards. Once again our members have shared with us wonderful examples of their talents that showcase the strength of the journalistic and artistic skills present within the Community Newspaper industry.
For this year we created a new award – Salesperson of the Year – to recognize and reward all the hard work members of our sales staffs do both within our papers and our communities. This honour is long overdue as traditionally the contributions of salespeople have been overlooked by newspaper awards programs. I am very pleased that we have been able to find a way to pay tribute to these important members of our team.
I would like to thank our hardworking volunteer judges. These individuals spend countless hours editing, publishing and/or designing, and then donate their time to help us reward the best of the best of Ontario’s Community Newspapers. Thank you very much. We couldn’t have done it without you.
A big thank you is also in order for our sponsors. Without their continuing contributions we wouldn’t be able to continue to offer such a robust awards program to our members.
And last but not least, many thanks to all of our members who submitted over 1,800 entries for this year’s competition. Soon, October will be upon us again, and members across Ontario will start looking through a year’s worth of newspapers searching for their best work to enter in the 2014 Better Newspapers Competition. Until then, let’s revel in this year’s accomplishments and take inspiration from the great work of our peers in Ontario’s Community Newspaper Industry.
Congratulations to all the winners of the 2013 OCNA Better Newspapers Competition.
