seeking medical treatments. The cost of the treatment is cheap as compared to that of South Africa. So, this sector is expanding especially in India. TOA: How striking is the medical infrastructure of your country? Dr. Kheri: As you know that Tanzania is a developing country, the government is working on the medical infrastructure. For example, we have hospitals which can now do cardiac surgeries, neurosciences etc. so, they perform most of the competitive procedures. We are generally lacking in the special equipments and that’s why we used to refer patients to other countries but now we have enough expertise in the field of cardiac & neuro. By the end of this year, we would start Cardiac Institute Center to perform cardiac surgeries and also we are planning to build up multiple special hospitals in the Islam in collaboration with Apollo. So, I think in near future Tanzania will grow more. TOA: What relates technology and health sector? Do you believe technology plays an important role in development of medical sector? Dr. Kheri: Technology plays an important role in the medical sector because they are synonyms to each other. Without technology, medical sector won’t develop at all. As you know that there are invasion of machines but there was a time when there were no MRI machines, CT scan machines etc. But nowadays, we have all the machines. Lot of developments has taken place in this sector. So, technology plays a major role in the medical sector. TOA: Would you like to share

with us some enduring programs and projects in medical sector of Tanzania? Dr. Kheri: Yes, we are planning to build multiple hospitals in Tanzania in collaboration with Apollo so that we can treat lot of patients in Tanzania and other parts of Africa also especially Central and Eastern Africa. There are projects with Fortis Hospital also. NGO’s in Tanzania has collaboration with Fortis hospital and they send patients for treatments to India frequently. TOA: Do you think India’s assistance and aid in the grassland of medical sector would prove advantageous for your country? What sort of help do you want from India? Dr. Kheri: Of course yes. I think for now we need expertise. Also, there is an exchange program wherein many doctors from the different faculties come here in India for attachment programs in different hospitals like Apollo, Fortis etc. There are doctors who go to Tanzania to establish their medical institute so as to treat patients and also they exchange expertise with counter parties. TOA: What part is government playing in improving the medical education structure and sculpts of your country?
