Introduction martial arts (sometimes mistakenly identified with combat sports and combat systems) are melee weapons, sometimes with white weapons. Training is the basis of all martial arts training, which usually teaches self-control of aggression outbreaks, self-defense, improves body performance and reduces fear. The classification of types of fighting into specific categories has become a point of contention among those concerned because of the liquid boundary between these categories. The main distinguishing feature of the categories is the purpose of training a particular type of fight. The theoretical priority in martial arts is personal-spiritual development. Combat sports emphasize the element of sporting rivalry. Battle systems, on the other hand, are forms created for the needs of modern armies, aimed at quick and effective elimination of the enemy. The fluidity of the borders consists, among other things, in the passing of some martial arts into the sphere of combat sports (eg judo, taekwondo). During the twentieth century most of the knowledge that the Western world gained about martial arts was based on cinematography and created a false picture, suggesting that martial arts is the domain of Asian countries. Meanwhile, since the dawn of time, people around the world have learned to defend against opponents, even without weapons. As a result, there are many martial arts in the world today that are actively trained and developed. The term "martial arts" was translated in 1920 in the Japanese-English Takenobu dictionary of Japanese bu-ji or bu-jutsu (武術): "art / skill of military behavior". The definition has been translated directly from the Chinese term wushu (pinyin: wǔ shù; Cantonese: mou seut), literally, "martial arts", meaning all the ways of Chinese fighting.More on this in the next issue.

Samrangdo Dojunim Chris Garland

Nashville Martial Arts Expert On World Seminar Tour It began back in September of 2016 when Martial Arts virtuoso Ronald C.Garland traveled to begin his world teaching tour at the newly appointed National Headquarters in Spain. This tour is sure to take him around the globe and back as he introduces his new martial art to branch member schools in other countries. Garland, who holds high level ranks in four martial arts, was recently officially recognized by Ji Han Jae, the former President of the Korea Hapkido Association and current leader of the World SinMoo Hapkido Federation, as the founder (Dojunim in Korean) of SinMoo SamRangDo. Garland is the first American to be invited into the Dojunim Circle of historical founders with this proclamation by Ji Han Jae, whose many contributions to the history of Korean martial arts are indisputable. This unique martial art of Garland’s combines the traditions of several ancient Korean military arts from the Shilla dynasty during the Three Kingdoms' period of Korean history. Dojunim Garland has spent his entire life researching and practicing these ancient skills that are documented in the book MooYeDoBo TongJi, written in 1435, as well as other Korean historical books and museum documents at the Seoul National Museum of History.

These fighting skills were proven effective on the battlefields of feudal Japan and Korea more than 1500 years ago, and they are just as effective today. Garland is recognized as America’s leading teacher of the ancient style of Korean swordsmanship and fencing, as well as the traditional Korean archery style that can be traced back nearly 2,000 years. In addition to these weapons' arts, he is introducing the empty hand self-defense applications of the hand, arm and leg movements, as well as the footwork patterns.

Another accolade, above and beyond the others, is that Dojunim Garland was given a special Korean name that has to do with the Sin Moo Hapkido organization that the founder Dojunim Ji Han Jae established. Sin Moo refers to mental and spiritual martial arts, emphasizing the balance of the mind and spirit with the physical techniques. Dojunim Ji Han Jae has stated many times publicly that Ronald C. Garland has surpassed his skill sets.Few can claim that they dedicate each day to learning, teaching and promoting martial arts, or that they were handpicked by Korea’s highest ranking Grand Masters to become the founder of their own modern art that encapsulates the ancient teachings of the SamRang Warriors of feudal Korea, but that is exactly what Dojunim Ronald C. Garland has achieved. His enthusiasm, charisma, and ability to communicate with people of all ages have made him a highly sought after seminar celebrity, which has led to invitations to demonstrate and teach at special events and seminars around the world. The purpose of this world seminar tour is to introduce the curriculum to new instructors who will be the directors of training in their home countries, and to form a branch school in each country. Garland has won international acclaim as a martial arts historian for bringing the practice of these ancient skills back to the forefront of modern teaching. His unique approach to teaching by Explanation, Demonstration, Practical Application and Review is so effective that it is the preferred method of instruction for the most elite military and police units in the world. Speaking of which, Garland has been awarded numerous accolades and letters of commendation from a multitude of law enforcement groups nationwide, the Department of State, the Green Berets, United States Rangers, Navy Seals, and the United States Marshals, in addition to many other organizations and associations.

Combining his thorough research, teaching and training strategies, he inspires audiences of students and masters alike. Everyone enjoys his unassuming approach to sharing his wealth of knowledge. Anyone interested in learning these skills by hosting or attending one of Dojunim Garland's seminars should contact his headquarters in Nashville, TN at Executive Martial Arts. Ba Gua Zhang and SDP System: the tradition becomes the future Sifu Alexander Lino Perlongo

Born in Calabria, southern Italy, in 1974, Master Alexander “Lino” Perlongo is just mentioned as the new Master of the Year in Kung Fu at the international Hall of Honors event in Barcelona 10th June 2017. Founder of the Long Dao Kung Fu Academy, Master Alexander Perlongo is the only Italian and European representative of the 4th generation of Grand Master Fu ZhenSong's Classical Family system in the inner styles of Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan, Tai Ji Quan and Nei Gong. Humble, discreet and hardworker, Master Perlongo best represents the image of the Martial Art Master, under every Technical, Ethical and Moral aspect.Born in Calabria, southern Italy, in 1974, Master Alexander “Lino” Perlongo is just mentioned as the new Master of the Year in Kung Fu at the international Hall of Honors event in Barcelona 10th June 2017. Humble, discreet and hardworker, Master Perlongo best represents the image of the Martial Art Master, under every Technical, Ethical and Moral aspect.

Specialized in civilian and military defense and security systems, Master Perlongo has created his own self defense system: SDP System. Born from his personal experience of the field and by an incessant research about adapting the traditional ancient Chinese systems to the most modern territorial needs, SDP System is an integrated and versatile method, that can fit every context: civilian, military, special force divisions, public and private security. Easy-to-learn, immediate and efficient, SDP System integrates military combat systems with traditional Kung Fu, modern strategy and stress management.

Master Alexander promotes intensive seminars and highly professional training sessions of his SDP System all over the world, keeping a high quality of practice and teaching. “Long Dao Academy”, that literally means “The Way of The Dragon”, is a traditional Chinese school where are teached the values of Martial Arts and Wu De. His familiar lineage is strictly connected to General Tiger Fu ZhenSong. Master Alexander Perlongo is an expert of Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan and Qin Na Shou.

Ba Gua Zhang («eight trigram palm») it’s the most complex and intense inner martial system of taoist derivation – feared on the battlefield and wellknown for his healthy effects. Ba Gua Zhang is an unique martial arts: combat is not only phisical fighting but focus about body and space, precision and speed of execution. Moreover, the spiritual energy exercises make this style one of a kind. Specific features of this school are: the practice of circle walking, or "turning the circle", as it is sometimes called, that amplifies the twisting strength and explosive power (Fa Li); also, the wave movement and vibrations of the palms.

SDP is based on these fundamental elements, that belongs to traditional systems such as Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Quan, in addition to conventional public and military security, giving life to an evolving style that seems more like a new whole method than just a tecnique. Defraunting one hundred kilograms just using four of them – that’s the core of the SDP system. By supporting the adversary's movements, in fact, it is possible to exploit its power by returning twice as strong and fast shots with the least effort. SDP System is a safe and effective system: created from years of study and personal experience in the field of security, acquired by Master Perlongo after several civil and military cooperation.
