Dear Reader,

It is hard to believe we are entering the fourth year of opera-

tions at Kroova. It seems just yesterday the idea for Kroova was just that - an idea. This year has brought many changes and great excitement. We’ve settled into a new shop, developed new capabilites, and welcomed Dylan full-time onto the team. I am often asked to describe what Kroova does, and it’s never a simple task. This newsletter is our way of answering that question. In its pages you’ll find a sample of various projects that we’ve enjoyed working on in the past year as well as some future aspirations. There are far more projects that we cannot share but this newsletter will have to suffice for now. We are inspired by long nights, beautiful designs, and interesting builds. We are always chasing the next project and we hope you’ll come along for the ride. Sincerely,

Dan Flanigan & The Kroova Team

Expanding C As of this year, Kroova officially has a space of its own. Expanding our footprint has allowed for the acquisition of new tools and machines to help us perfect our craft. Kroova Headquarters has quickly become a hub for all sorts of engineering activity. This year we hosted various projects including a 1974 Jensen-Healey engine rebuild, carbon fiber “paper” airplane testing, countless Moth sailboat repairs, a 1940s I-14 restoration, and more. It is not uncommon for a combination of projects to keep the shop running continuously day and night. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kroova was hired to design and fabricate DSS foil bearings for the Infinity 46, Maverick. The bearings were made from a castable polyurethane that was poured in place to most effectively follow the contours of the foil. These bearings are a critical piece of equipment for the yacht, having to support nearly the entire weight of the boat, yet be easy to deploy and retract the foil with only one person. Kroova was also hired to engineer the installation of a new rudder, rudder bearing, and steering system.

“We’d like to extend a special thanks to Dan Flanigan and Max Kramers from Kroova LLC for their superb work. We highly recommended them to anyone with challenging work, looking for high end results. These boys are all over it.” - Team Maverick

Autonomous Su In 2020, Kroova will continue its development of easy-to-use, highly accessible, autonomous surface vehicles. At the close of 2019, the Scout prototype underwent preliminary testing and produced highly encouraging results. These autonomous boats exist to perform missions while carrying payloads. From shallow water operability, to best-in-class speed, lead time, and cost, our solar powered ASVs enable unprecedented accessibility to the benefits offered by oceangoing robots.

PROPULSION Scout vehicles are electric motorboats powered with seaweed-shedding propellers.

Construction is currently underway for multiple Sea Scout hulls at Kroova HQ. Early models o We are very excited about the doors that this will open for our team and are looking forward ing Kroova’s Autonomous Surface Vehicles, send us an email.

Maintaining the

Competitive Edge » Max traveled to San Francisco to sail on the TF10 Celeritas in the Great Vallejo Race finishing first in the multi-hull division.

» Dan sailed 750 miles from Washington to Alaska in the infamous Race to Alaska. Along the way his team suffered a major rudder failure forcing the team ashore where they scrambled to build a new rudder overnight (pictured left) to allow them to finish the race.

» Both Dan and Max competed in Moth North Americans out of Coronado Yacht Club right here in San Diego placing sixth and ninth respectively.

» Dan traveled to Perth, Australia to compete in Moth Worlds. In a fleet of 122 boats, he finished 79th and intends to compete in the next Worlds in Weymouth, England.
