Jackson has over 14 years experience in facade and building enclosure design. He applies his creative and technical skills to the design and engineering of innovative facade systems, for projects both domestic and abroad, with particular expertise in curtain walls, double skin facades, structural glass, and computational design. Jackson has given numerous presentations on facade design and is a member of the AIA and ASTM Subcommittee E06.52–Glass Use in Buildings.

SPEAKERS JIM BALD Operations Director, Harmon

Bald manages the preconstruction and operations groups for the Mid-Atlantic region of Harmon, which specializes in the design, manufacturing, and installation of custom curtain walls. Bald has helped build projects such as FMC Tower and CHOP Schuylkill Office in Philadelphia, and Alexander Court, City Center Condos, USCG Headquarters, and GWU Science and Engineering Building in Washington, DC.

BRADFORD CARPENTER Principal, Simpson Gumpertz & Heger

A Principal in his firm’s Building Technology group, Carpenter specializes in the design and integration of complex building enclosure systems, including waterproofing, air and water barriers, cladding, and fenestration systems, with a focus on design efficiency, constructability, and performance. He closely collaborates with designers and regularly leverages cross-disciplinary capabilities at SGH to develop creative and thoughtful solutions.

LAURA CROCE Associate, Shalom Baranes Associates

Since joining SBA in 2007, Croce has participated in a wide range of projects, including master planning, commercial office, and multi-family residential design. As Lead Designer, Croce shepherds projects through complex zoning and design approval processes in Washington, DC, and Maryland.

MARTINA DRISCOLL Principal, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates

Driscoll joined Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates in 1997, where she has been involved in a wide variety of projects, including forensic investigation of existing facilities, repair document preparation and oversight during implementation, material failure investigation and repair, as well as design peer review and building enclosure commissioning.

KEVIN GANNON Director Program Development, TAKTL

Director of Program Development for TAKTL, LLC, and a founding partner at three architecture firms, Gannon, RA, LEED AP, has over 30 years experience, completing award-winning buildings for university, non-profit, and

commercial clients. Before joining TAKTL in 2013, Kevin was the Regional Program Manager–Africa for Architecture for Humanity based in Cape Town, South Africa.

CHLOE HIYU Principal, HOK

Hiyu has over 18 years experience creating high-performance facades for commercial mixed-use projects, laboratories, and institutional projects. With a focus in the DC, MD, VA region, her work is also informed by her portfolio of international projects primarily located in the Middle East. Hiyu works closely with teams on design optimization and engaging clients through the design process.

COLIN MACKILLOP Senior Associate, Quinn Evans Architects

MacKillop is a Project Manager and Lead Designer on a major civic institutional commission. His previous projects include museums, conference centers, arenas, theatres, multi-family residential, mixed-used development, and campus planning in the U.S., U.K., and New Zealand. MacKillop has served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, on Baltimore AIA’s Lecture Series Committee, and taught architectural design studios at Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, NZ.

PAMELA SAMS Technical Director, Gensler

Sams recently completed the design for a new Forensic Laboratory Campus for the Department of Justice and heads the Construction Administration team for Phase One. She was a Project Leader on the Western Expansion to Dulles Airport and Oqyana-World First, a multi-use development off the coast of Dubai. She has also been a Senior Project Architect in the U.S., Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Sams is a member of the Women In Architecture Committee, Northern Virginia.

JESSE WADESON Quality Executive, Clark Construction

Wadeson is a Vice President with Clark Construction Group, leading the company’s quality initiatives throughout the eastern U.S. An expert in façade quality control, he has helped execute Clark’s most complex projects, including the National Museum of African American History & Culture and the United States Institute of Peace.
