Benefits of Biomass Conventionally, wood fuel was the main source of energy. It was either used directly or burnt to produce charcoal, which was then used in heating. Other sources of energy included coal. As technology began to be the centrepiece of everything, exploitation of other sources of energy such as petroleum became more eminent.
