Port of Fuglafjørður is one of Europe’s leading pelagic fishing ports, with a comprehensive range of facilities and services.

The town of Fuglafjørður, stretching around the head of a deep fjord by the same name, offers an excellent natural harbour, where you and your vessel safely can have a pitstop in the North Atlantic - even under all weather conditions.

The quay is more than 1,250 meters in length. The longest ship to rest at quay was 248 metres. The port plays a significant role in the pelagic fisheries of the North Atlantic, as well as the overall gross domestic production of the Faroe Islands. The town, with 3.3% of the total population, generates nearly 30% of the Faroese Export.

With pelagic fisheries at the core of the port’s business, bunkering has also become one of the main sources of ship traffic. The only port in the Faroe Islands to offer heavy fuel for marine vessels on a commercial basis, Fuglafjørður has seen steady growth in this segment, which is largely driven by demand from international vessels.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

ETA should be given to the Agent or to the Harbour Office 24, 12 and 2 hours before arrival.

The fjord is wide and deep. There are no rocks or other underwater obstructions.

The radar image can be used optimally as a navigation aid. The tidal currents run 6 hours in a northerly direction and 6 hours in a southerly direction at a speed of up to 4 knots when there are strong currents.

Inside the fjord there is no current.

The difference between high and low water is 1.0 metres.

Vónin includes gears to all kinds of fish trawls net. We provide our best services in numerous countries such as Faroe Islands, Canada, Norway, Greenland, Lithuania and Russia. Pilot is a pilotage agency with many experience to assure you a pleasant arrival to the quay. We do this to improve safety and to prevent any kind of pollution of the marine environment. When sailing into Faroese ports you may apply to the authorities for a PEC (Pilot Exemtion Certificate) by means of the link application form. We answer calls every hour of the day.

The freezing storage holds a minimum of 25.000 Tonnes, and is owned by Framinvest, Faroe Ship, Havsbrún, Vónin, and Others.

The cold store is located inside a tunnel system at the foot of the mountain Borgin that towers above the main harbor area, right between the Pelagos freezing plant and the Havsbrún fishmeal, fish oil and feed factory, and near several other key service providers for vessels calling at the port, including fishing gear, fuel, supplies and mechanical repairs, for example.

As a leading cold storage facility it not merely fulfils all requirements associated with a modern cold store — but is one of the largest in the entire Nordic Seas region and we offer a service that is second to none.
