RAISE the PRIDE

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Ahoy Pirate Families,

Tish Mineer

Happy New Year and welcome back to the second semester! The teachers and staff are looking forward to an exciting 3rd quarter where learning accelerates and students continue to increase their Lexile Levels in reading. This is important because the raising of their Lexile Level supports their reading more challenging content material and increases their learning. The math skills they gained over the first semester will be used in application to solve more complex math problems and advance their math skills. Our Vision Statement of, “By working together as a Norterrra Canyon family, we are building foundations to empower our students to navigate our ever-changing world and positively impact the community.” was lived as we had many school wide service projects that positively impacted our community. Our National Junior Honor Society and Student Government (StuGo) sponsored Superhero September and the canned food drive, while our PTSA led the campaign to collect clothing for a school in need in our district. In the second semester, our IB MYP third year students will be creating service projects for others to participate in that will continue our vision of Pirates positively impacting the community around us. Our Mission Statement of: “Norterra Canyon is a vibrant, child centered, and engaging learning community that demonstrates instructional and academic excellence, embraces the diversity of all students, values the uniqueness of each child, and maintains integrity through Pirate PRIDE.” will continue to be reinforced in our weekly Seaworthy awards and through classroom and grade level activities. We hope you will be able to join us this second semester as we will have a variety of learning experiences that parents will be invited to attend or participate in with their student. I look forward to seeing you around campus! ARRR, Principal Mineer
