The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority expects to receive $600,000 in federal funding to support its efforts to expand scheduled service out of Fort Wayne International Airport. The Office of Aviation Analysis awarded the grant through its Small Community Air Service Development Program. The program awarded more than $11 million in grants to 25 airports in 22 states. “This is great news for the Fort Wayne International Airport and a testament to our collaborative regional efforts,” Scott Hinderman, the authority’s executive director of airports, said in a statement released by the

Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership. “We look forward to using the grant to expand our air service options for travelers in northeast Indiana.” The authority worked with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and the Regional Air Service Committee on the grant application. It also has worked with the groups during the past 12 months to identify possible routes for additional scheduled service out of FWA and conducted a business traveler survey as part of that effort. “Expanding air service options in northeast Indiana, one of the priorities for Vision 2020, is critical for creating a highly competitive business climate in the region,” Katy Silliman, NIRP’s vice president of regional initiatives, said in the statement.
