haukeen, the 1980 Basu Chatterjee comic film about three old men lusting after a girl next-door, is all set to be remade by Rumi Jaffery. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar has been roped in to play the character of Mithun Chakraborty. While the female lead originally played by Rati Agnihotri will be essayed by Nargis Fakhri. Though in the original, Mithun’s part was a small role, the remake will apparently change the part to fit in Akshay. Further reports suggest that Akshay has not charged his usual fee for this film as it is not a full length role, but he will have a stake in the film. The three old actor roles have gone to Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Paresh Rawal.

anjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala has done very well at the box office. So much so that the director-producer is contemplating a third instalment of the franchise. Gupta recently stated that he is giving attention to an ‘Epic revenge saga’, which turns out to be the third instalment in the Shootout franchise. Further Gupta says that he is looking forward to casting Abhishek Bachchan alongside John Abraham in the film. Though the film is yet to be titled, we hear that Abhishek will be seen playing the character of a real life Hindu gangster while John’s character will be based on the real encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar. kshay Kumar was advised a week’s rest to recuperate by the doctors after he injured his right foot while shooting an action scene for Vipul Shah’s ‘Thupakki.’ However, the actor was back on the sets after two days. The shoot was at the Mumbai Central railway station and A R Murugadoss, the director of the film, ensured the scene didn’t require much footwork from the actor. A segway was specially brought in to help Akshay navigate from his vanity van to the platform. Apparently, he woke up Vipul in the middle of the night and insisted the shoot be resumed. A source close to the production house said, “All necessary permissions were taken to ensure a smooth shoot. It was an 800-member strong unit with around 300 artistes dressed in military outfits. Akshay, who was also in uniform, appeared to be limping a bit while giving the shots.” Vipul mentioned, “Akshay’s main concern was losing out on crucial days of filming.” Murgadoss, who was present on the set, looked visibly nervous as he was concerned about the actor’s health and did his best to ensure any further injury is avoided. He said, “I am impressed with Akshay’s bravery and his commitment to his work. The doctors had advised him to take rest for at least a week.”

What do you recall about your childhood?

My father was an assistant to K Asif, the director of Mughal-e-Azam, after which he became secretary to Shammi Kapoor. In those days, your secretary was treated like family. So we were close to Shammi uncle’s family and through him, Raj Kapoor’s family. My mother and Krishna aunty were close to each other like inseparable sisters. They are still best of friends and we were like Krishna aunty’s children. She is the only one who has slapped me as a mom and till today I feel extremely close to her.

Are you a trained actor?

I have never failed in my life except once in the FTII written examination, where Girish Karnad was the principal. I asked him why a written exam was relevant for an acting course and requested him to take my screen test instead. But he refused and said ‘rules are rules’. I cried and was broken, but soon came to know that professor Taneja, who is a guru for many senior actors like Jaya Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha, was starting his own acting school in Juhu. I joined his first batch.

Within your family who were you most attached to?

I was most attached to Boney and even though there is an age gap of just one year between us, he has always been my elder brother. As kids, we didn’t see eye-to-eye, but we became attached from the time we started working together as both of us shared the same passion and motivation to make our family successful. You and Sridevi have acted in so many films. Did it make you feel odd when she married Boney? With anyone else it would have been different, but with her my relationship was so unadulterated and clean that there was no problem. Sunita and I are both modern-minded people and we respected Boney’s decision. There are things that are personal and where you draw a line.

Ingredients •Watermelon 1/4 •Muskmelon 1 medium •For the dressing •Lemon juice 1 1/2 teaspoons •Orange juice 2 tablespoons •Black peppercorns, crushed 3-4 •Fresh mint leaves, torn 1 tablespoon•Salt to taste •Black salt (kala namak) to taste Method Using a Parisienne scoop remove small roundels from the watermelon.
