Chinese (AS Level)
About the course
Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language has been designed to help candidates develop language proficiency to level B1 and B2 (Independent User) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Candidates will be required to show knowledge and understanding of the broad topic areas i.e. culture, health and well-being, education and future plans, community and society, our responsibility for the planet, science and technology.

Assessment
Candidates listen to a number of recordings consisting of short and longer spoken texts and answer multiple-choice and matching questions. All listening material is recorded in Mandarin Chinese.

Minimum entry requirements/prior learning
A to A* in IGCSE Mandarin Foreign Language (0547). Below A to A* in IGCSE Chinese as a Second Language (0523).

Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language helps candidates continue to develop a set of transferable skills for understanding and communicating in everyday situations in Chinese, and to use Chinese with ever-increasing levels of sophistication. Learners build on the solid foundation acquired at IGCSE and continue to develop cultural awareness of countries and communities where Chinese is spoken. They develop the essential linguistic skills required for progression to further studies or employment.
