Wizkid is the stage name of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, a Nigerian singer and composer. Wizkid is the most decorated Nigerian musician of all time and the most decorated African globally, as well as one of the most groundbreaking Afro-pop artists of the modern period. He stepped into the recording studio back when he wasnnt even a teenager and proceeded to develop a joint album with the Glorious Five, a group he founded with a few of his church buddies. Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) decided to sign Wizkid to a record deal in 2009. With over 3 Billion streams across several popular online platforms, the Grammy winner is currently the most-streamed Nigerian musician of all time on Spotify.

The Music Career and Life of Wizkid Wizkid was named Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun when he was born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16th, 1990. He was born to a multifaith family with twelve female siblings. His father is an Islamist, and his mother is a Pentecostal Christian. Wizkid attended Ijebu Ode Grammar School in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria.


While growing up, he was influenced by music from legends of the industry such as Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Sunny Ade. Wizkid revealed in 2012 during an interview with Tim Westwood that his father had three wives. Wizkid also spoke about how he founded the Glorious Five with a couple of his church buddies in another interview with Adesope of Factory 78 TV. The Glorious Five released an album before the band was dissipated. Wizkid’s Record Label- Starboy Entertainment Wizkid adjusted his Twitter account and tweeted a subtle message in February 2013. He also left the E.M.E mansion in Lagos and bought a house in the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood. All this led to obvious confusion from the fans; however, Banky W reassured fans that everything was fine.

Furthermore, problems inside E.M.E were said to have started as early as the E.M.E All-Stars event in 2012. Money was also said to be at the centre of the problem. Wizkid and E.M.E reconciled after contract talks, according to “Nigerian Entertainment Today” on April 30th, 2013. However, after the release of his second studio album and the expiration of his five-year deal with E.M.E, Wizkid left the label without getting any money.


In March 2013, Wizkid launched his label Starboy Entertainment. He told Silverbird Television’s Yvonne Ekwere that he hoped to sign fresh performers to the company. He stated he started his own record label to provide a platform for new artists to display their talent. Wizkid signed some of the best up and coming artists in April 2013, such as; Maleek Berry Legendury Beatz A.X Wizkid worked on two songs, “Lagos to Soweto” and “The Matter” with Maleek Berry.
