FISKARS NORDEN-SERIES You might have grown accustomed to Fiskars’ black-orange axes. This time, however, the company decided to do things a little differently. With the Norden collection, Fiskars demonstrates how traditional and modern can easily be combined.

FISKARS NORDEN N7 FELLING AXE

FISKARS NORDEN N10 FELLING AXE

FISKARS NORDEN N12 SPLITTING AXE

The N7 is a small, universal axe with a natural look and feel. The axe is great for pruning, chopping and making kindling. A must-have while spending time in the woods.

The N10 is bigger than the N7. It is a felling axe that is suited for one-handed use and chopping (fire) wood. Perfect for chopping tasks in the garden or woods. This axe feels really decent.

The last axe and also the largest one in the Norden collection is the Norden N12. This splitting axe is great when splitting small logs with a diameter of up to 20 cm.

BARK RIVER KNIVES What makes them so special?

04

Within a couple of years Bark River Knives turned into one of the most popular brands for fixed blades. What makes Bark River Knives so special?

It is quite obvious that it has something to do with the quality. But don’t other manufacturers also produce great knives? Sure, but there is something special about Bark River. It is a remarkable combination of amazing traits. Each knife is enhanced with a convex grind that is applied by hand. You don’t see that every day. But also the almost infinite amount of models, types of steel and handle materials appeal to knife enthusiasts. Numerous combinations are possible. As such almost each knife is unique. Ergonomics, however, are key for Bark River knives. You need to hold a ‘Barkie’ yourself to understand how amazing it feels in hand. And no we are not only talking about the first five seconds you hold it. Even if you use a Bark River knife for a longer period of time it still feels comfortable. That is remarkable. It makes Bark River ‘King of the fixed knives’.

In the outdoor world the following saying is quite common: a large knife can do what a small knife can, but a small knife will never be able to do what a large knife can. Makes sense. Until you try the Fieldcraft 3.5 Mini.

TOPS KNIVES FIELDCRAFT 3.5 MINI

T

he Fieldcraft 3.5 Mini is the compact, younger brother of the popular TOPS Fieldcraft knife. A knife designed by the Brothers of Bushcraft: an association of bushcraft enthusiasts in the United States. Incredibly popular, but with its 24.8 cm a little too big and too heavy. For that reason the Fieldcraft 3.5 Mini is enhanced with all popular aspects of its big brother, but has a total length of 20.7 cm. Large enough to carry out all normal bushcraft tasks, small and light enough to take it with you during hikes. It is namely 44% lighter than its big brother. You can tell! The great thing about this bushcraft knife is that the blade has a scandivex edge: a combination of a scandi and convex edge. As such the edge is great for fine wood carving tasks, but also strong enough to withstand heavy-duty use. At the end of the day the compact size of the Fieldcraft 3.5 Mini has many advantages. After all, it is not about size! It is about what you do with it!

The fact that survival knives don’t always have to be big is something ESEE proves with the Izula. One of the most popular survival knives in our range. Despite a blade length of almost seven cm, it can do more than some large knives.

ESEE IZULA I

t got its name from the Izula Ant, also known as the ‘bullet ant’. A bite from this ant feels like you are being shot. The idea that such a small animal can have such a massive impact suits this knife. Many people carry the Izula as a light-weight knife while hiking. It is, however, also great as a back-up knife, or to accompany an axe in some bushcraft gear. ESEE uses two different types of steel to produce the Izula: tough 1095 carbon steel and stainless 440C steel. There is also an Izula II with a slightly longer handle. The great thing about the Izula is that you can also use it without the scales. The result is a really compact and light-weight knife. For additional comfort and more grip you can enhance the handle with a paracord wrap. As such you will immediately have a piece of paracord close as well. Incredibly useful! The ESEE Izula is a type of knife that will prove its worth a hundred times over. An asset to every collection.

Maxpedition backpacks are amazing for anyone who loves great gear. Made to withstand years of intensive use. But what makes the Maxpedition backpacks so special?

MAXPEDITION VERSATILE BACKPACKS

T

he Maxpedition backpacks were truly designed to be used. The sturdy material can withstand years of intensive use. But that is not all! Maxpedition always enhances its backpacks with enough small compartments in order to neatly organize your gear. Incredibly practical because it enables you to always easily find whatever you are looking for. Not enough room? Don’t worry. The backpacks have multiple MOLLE mountings options. Awesome, because this system of loops allows you to attach an additional EDC pouch, for instance. As such you can add as much storage space as you might need. It goes without saying that the backpacks are enhanced with adjustment options to adjust the carrying straps to your liking. Maxpedition backpacks are incredibly popular amongst soldiers and cops. Makes sense, because you can truly rely on these versatile backpacks. Thousands of professionals beat you to it. When will you get yours?

Victorinox. Mostly known for its versatile Swiss pocket knives with the classic red scales. But did you know that Victorinox also produces practical multi-tools? The quality? Amazing! Meet the Victorinox SwissTool collection.

VICTORINOX SWISSTOOL

Functionality, reliability and an amazing value for money. It is what we think of when we think of Victorinox Swiss pocket knives. The SwissTools are no exception. Whether you are spending time at home, at work or in nature: with a SwissTool on hand you will be ready for anything life throws at you. The SwissTool collection is comprised of different models. The two most popular tools are the SwissTool X and the SwissTool Sprit XC. In terms of functions both are fairly similar. The X, however, is slightly more robust and larger than the Spirit. Because of its elegant design the Spirit XC is sometimes also called the gentleman amongst multi-tools. Especially in combination with the leather sheath it is an absolute showstopper. Want to make the most of your multi-tool? Victorinox also introduced the SwissTool Plus collection. The tools in this collection are enhanced with an extra-large sheath with a bit-set and a ratchet or wrench. Looking for the most corrosionresistant multi-tool? If so, check out the SwissTool BS or Spirit XBS with a black oxide-coating.

In 2017 Gerber successfully challenged Leatherman’s hegemony on the multi-tool market with the Center-Drive. And yet Gerber felt that the Center-Drive could become even better. It could benefit from an additional ‘plus’. Meet the Gerber Center-Drive Plus.

GERBER

CENTER-DRIVE PLUS MULTITOOL

T

he amazing screwdriver, one-handed opening pliers, interchangeable wire cutters: we have all seen those before. The tool the Center-Drive missed, however, was a pair of scissors. That is why Gerber got rid of the serrated knife and partially enhanced the normal blade with serrations. As such there was enough room for the much requested pair of scissors. Spring-loaded even, incredibly practical when you use the tool with one hand. Gerber also upgraded the sheath. The solid, USA produced, belt sheath is now made from thick leather. We can honestly say that you rarely come across such a beautiful sheath. The great thing is that there is also enough room for the bit-set that comes with the Gerber Center-Drive Plus. All in all, the Gerber Center-Drive Plus is a strong competitor amongst all other multi-tools in the higher segment. It is a tool that wants everyone to know that Gerber took a hold of the multi-tool market, and is not planning to let go any time soon.

De Buyer Prima Matera pans have an elegant and shiny, copper outside. Looks amazing yes, but it also distributes the heat evenly! With these copper pans cooking will once again become an art form.

De Buyer Prima Matera The kitchen is your canvas

C

opper is known for properly distributing heat. As such these pans are great when preparing sauces or melting chocolate. It is for a reason that copper pans have been popular amongst professional chefs and fanatic amateur chefs for decades. The inside of the copper pans is made from stainless steel. As such you can easily clean them. The fine handles are also made from stainless steel and don’t heat up while cooking. The pans can be used on all cooking hobs. Even induction works thanks to the magnetic base. Use these pans to prepare and serve delicious dishes and enrich your table with a piece of art.

It doesn’t really matter what you are planning to eat tonight. All you have to do is use a Le Creuset frying pan to prepare it! After all, you can use these versatile pans to simmer, fry potatoes or sear a tender piece of meat. You can even pop it in the oven to grill your dishes. The effortless clean-up is a bonus.

Le Creuset LES FORGÉES

Le Creuset uses aluminium to produce these all-round pans. And not just any type of aluminium, but forged aluminium. As such the pans hold their shape well, something that could be problem when you use cast aluminium. Because of the steel disk in the base the pans can be used on all cooking hobs, including induction. Other advantages we shouldn’t forget: the hardened, PFOA-free, non-stick coating prevents burning, the handle stays cold and last, but not least: the thick base takes care of an optimal distribution of heat for fast and even baking. In short, Le Creuset once again shows us what a top-quality pan should look like.

The traditional Classic collection is Kai’s most extensive collection. In fact, it is one of the most extensive collections in the world. And, it is now also available in white: the Classic White. Nice to meet you.

KAI SHUN CLASSIC WHITE Classic wearing a white jacket

A

s the name might already suggest the handle of the White collection is made from white pakka wood. This makes the knives look amazing. The blade is made from a VG MAX-steel core, encased in 32 layers of damasteel. This appreciated combination is robust and retains its sharpness for a long time.

This collection starts with seven knives, of which one Limited Edition Kiritsuke knife. Other than that the collection is comprised of a paring knife, utility knife, santoku, carving knife, bread knife and, of course, the frequently used chef’s knife. All knives are enhanced with a special surface treatment to create the beautiful lines. Each KAI knife is sharpened by hand before it ends up in your kitchen.

KRAMER BY ZWILLING SAKAI TAKAYUKI EURO MEIJI CHEF’S BUNKA KNIFE

NESMUK EXCLUSIVE C90 CHEF’S KNIFE

BÖKER DAMAST OLIVE CHEF’S KNIFE

This knife is absolutely amazing to look at. The blade has a core made from FC61 steel, surrounded by hundreds of layers of steel. Thanks to a special process all knives get their own damast pattern, making each of them unique.

When you look at this knife your eye is immediately drawn to the unparalleled damasteel blade. This blade is comprised of a whopping 210 layers of damasteel. The blade has a double-sided hollow grind. As such the edge is extra thin and, as such, razor-sharp.

This knife has a subtle pattern on the blade that matches the pattern on the wooden handle. The shape of the blade and the lack of the crop make this knife look very Japanese. Combine this elegant style with Japanese craftsmanship and you end up with this stunning chef’s knife.

This Sakai knife has a kengata blade. Kengata stands for ‘sword-like’ and refers to the sharply sloping end. The blade has a core made from hard VG-10, encased in 33 layers of damasteel. The side is hammered. This takes care of the unique look and feel.

Coming up with great texts, original campaigns and relevant information is something I happily work on every single day. It could, however, be a little tiring sometimes. That is why it is great to relax now and again. The best way to relax? By sharpening knives on Japanese sharpening stones. LEON’S FAVOURITE

SHAPTON PRO STONES

The Shapton Pro Stones are my favourite Japanese sharpening stones. These colourful ceramic stones enable you to sharpen your knives in a traditional manner. The focus and the repetitive movements that are necessary to constantly use the right angle are what I find so relaxing. The sound the stones make as I sharpen my knives is also very relaxing. Sharpening your knife on a 5000 or 8000 grit Shapton sharpening stone sounds like you are skating on smooth Norwegian natural ice. But that is not all, sharpening your own knives is also very satisfying. The light euphoria you experience when you feel how sharp the knives have become is a great bonus. I prefer to sharpen my knives outside in the garden, but sharpening inside is just as great. No matter where I sharpen my knives, I completely recharge as I use the Shapton Pro Stones. GENTLEMAN’S KNIVES CL ASSY POCKE T KNIVES

a gentleman’s knife is a pocket knife with a luxurious and chic look and feel. in the past everyone owned one. today, however, this is unfortunately no longer the case. quite a shame really. that is why we would like to introduce to you: the world of the gentleman’s knife! Gentleman’s knives come in many different types and styles. The most popular are the modern gentleman’s knife and its counterpart, the classic gentleman’s knife. A classic gentleman’s knife stays true to the style of the pocket knives that were produced in the past. Like that one pocket knife your grandfather used to carry with him. These classic gentleman’s knives are enhanced with traditional mechanisms and materials such as wood and stag horn. A modern gentleman’s knife, however, is innovative and made from modern materials such as carbon fibre and titanium. While classic gentleman’s knives mostly stay true to their origin, modern gentleman’s knives look for paths less travelled. A gentleman’s knife is an indispensable part of your outfit. In addition to peeling an apple and opening a letter you can use a gentleman’s knife to make a style statement. Like a beautiful watch, a gentleman’s knife says something about who you are and what you wish to convey. A gentleman’s knife is truly a reflection of the person who carries it.

Classic gentleman’s knife from Fontenille Pataud Fontenille Pataud has been producing the world’s best Laguiole knives ever since the twenties. Laguiole is the name of the village in France where these types of knives come from. There are only a couple of brands left that produce top-quality Laguiole knives. Fontenille Pataud is definitely one of them. The name Le Pocket says it all: these knives are made for your pocket. Because of the slim and tasteful design these knives are almost begging you to be used. Because of the massive amount of different handle materials used there will always be a knife that matches your style or outfit. The blade is wafer-thin which makes it perfect for light daily tasks. As a cherry on top the knives are enhanced with stunning file work. To make carrying this gentleman’s knife even more comfortable it comes with a fancy leather pouch.

Heinr. Böker & Co was founded in 1869. This means that in 2019 Böker celebrates its 150th anniversary. We were invited to celebrate this joyous occasion and look back on a remarkable event in Solingen.

Böker Gentleman’s knives 150 years. An age many brands can only dream of. During our visit to the Manufaktur in Solingen we immediately noticed it: something unique is going on here. Experts were working with massive industrial machines, and handles and blades were finished and sharpened by hand. We hadn’t seen or experienced this form of craftsmanship before. For at least a couple of hours it felt like we took a time machine and travelled back to the year 1869. Keeping Böker’s history in mind it is not that surprising that the most beautiful, classic gentleman’s knives are produced in Solingen. After all, this form of craftsmanship leaves its mark on every knife. The result is an absolutely authentic and unique tool. To celebrate its 150th birthday Böker produced multiple anniversary knives. Limited to 150 pieces per model, of which many enhanced with a Chad Nichols Damascus blade. Made from an old steam engine wheel that used to power the machines at Böker. These knives radiate history, literally and figuratively speaking.

The best from German soil for 150 years
