knitting in vivid colour Inside this issue are four stories about living outside, and the sense of vivid freshness that comes with being in the open landscape. This luxury garment collection takes its cue from the beginning of spring, using lightweight yarn for the transition of seasons, when summer is already in the air yet winter is still on the way out. In the first story, vivid colour is captured with easy cotton knits. The little hot pink cardigan with short sleeves and open-work panels on page 8 makes a stunning addition to your casual holiday gear. The landscape has a tendency to change the way we feel. Being out in the ‘wide blue’ can make you feel like a new arrival in an unknown land. The spiral scarf on page 87 looks tricky, but its really very easy to learn and uses ‘short row shaping’. You will need to grasp the ‘wrap-and-turn’ technique to get the result, but once you get used to it you’ll find this a pleasure, and fun to make. The softness and drapey comfort of our Desert Garden Aran Cotton yarn is something to be experienced. I still remember the exquisite feeling of being on holiday and bathing out in the morning sunshine, using a face washer and soap, with an old block of wood as a bench top. Page 43 is our re-creation of that feeling with a watermelon coloured bath robe to complete the picture. Its an heirloom treasure and every girl should have one of her own. To be by the shore is to be free and in touch with your sensual self. The simple tweed coat on page 86 is as light as a feather and perfect for an early morning foray to collect the things washed up along the shore. This coat offers a great opportunity to hone your Stocking stitch technique. As always, the projects created at the Jo Sharp studio are styled for real comfort and easy stress-free knitting. Inspired by movement, sunlight and the landscape, we are re-visiting the places and textures of the great outdoors and we invite you to step outside and share with us. Jo Sharp
