S

GREETINGS AND WELCOME MESSAGES

Prof. Dr. Suchatvee SUWANSAWAT President King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang It is our honour to host the International Seminar on Technology for Sustainability 2018 (ISTS 2018) from the 7th to the 13th of October, both at the Pattaya venue and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). The aim of the event coincides with our vision to enrich students of the 21st century with knowledge, proficiency, and ambition in learning. It is with our most heartfelt pleasure that we welcome all our enthusiastic participating students both from Thailand and abroad. ISTS 2018 presents a wonderful opportunity for young and eager minds to not only deepen their knowledge and experience with problem-solving and technical proficiency, but also widen their perspective and teamworking skills in a multiculturally-rich environment. You will be tested on your ability to work under time constraints, on an open-ended problem with people whom you have never worked with, and language barriers you may need to overcome. The experience will reward you with a more thorough understanding and experience of technical proficiency, teamwork, leadership, and management. Most of all, you will also gain new connections from all across the globe.

Dr. Isao TANIGUCHI President National Institute of Technology (KOSEN)       on Technology for Sustainability 2018 (ISTS 2018), which is hosted by King Mongkut's Welcome you all to the International Seminar Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and held in Pattaya and Bangkok, Thailand during October 7 – 13, 2018, under collaboration with National Institute of Technology (NIT), Japan, Toyohashi University of Technology and Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan. ISTS brings together young engineering students from all over the world to share and polish-up their technological knowledge and skills for the promising future. The ISTS 2018 is organized to discuss further at a higher level, in which students tackle problems proposed by industries, and learn a lot of practical knowledge on technology and sustainability. Also, I hope, they understand the importance of working together with global students with different backgrounds as an international team. During such activities, I expect the students can find out various social issues to be solved and make deep discussions for the solution by their original ideas and actions. I believe, through this seminar, students will grow up to be world-class engineers, called “Social Doctors and Creators.” Finally, I would like to thank all commitee members, especially members of KMITL, fot their great efforts to organize and host this seminar. Let us enjoy and make ISTS 2018 active and fruitful, here in Pattaya and Bangkok the wonderful city.

Dr. Keijiro ARAKI President National Institute of Technology, Kumamoto College It is our pleasure and honor to cooperate on the International Seminar on Technology for Sustainability 2018 (ISTS 2018) with King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand. Currently, we are facing many difďŹ cult and complicated issues all over the world such as poverty, hunger, energy, climate change and so forth. These are no longer issues to be conďŹ ned to one country, but global issues now that global interdependence is all the more increasing. SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) also deal with goals on these issues. In order to solve these issues, all countries have to collaborate on promoting prosperity for all human beings while protecting our planet. Besides knowledge and understanding of engineering science, engineers of the 21st century have to acquire a lot of skills, namely, problem analysis/solving skills, solution design skills, individual and team work skills, communication skills, investigation skills and ethics. ISTS 2018 aims to enhance skills of students mentioned above in international and practical situations by providing opportunities to experience collaboration among students from different countries. You are just standing in front of the door to the global world. I am sure that every participant will enjoy ISTS 2018 and be able to enhance and elaborate further on your skills and leadership as global engineers in both Pattaya and Bangkok, Thailand.

The event aims to offer knowledge and insights into creating sustainable systems and solutions for the technology industry, as well as offering participants the ability to be creative, active, and productive in team problem-solving. The problem cases given to the participants are provided by successful local companies taking interests in bettering our society, environment, and lifestyle by using sustainable technology. By the end of the comprehensive 6-day workshop, participants will be well-equipped with new skillsets from implementing solutions. ISTS 2018 will also offer the freedom and environment for participating students to forge new connections and bonds with students from other cultural and societal backgrounds.
