Q: 2020 has had a rough start for most entrepreneurs and companies. What goals did you have in place for 2020 and how did the COVID-19 pandemic affect those goals? A: Yes, 2020 started off rough for us. Like most companies, it disrupted our goals for the year, and put a halt to most of our new product launches and campaigns. We had celebrity and brand endorsement deals that were in place to promote our new GOTECHCordless Technology products and ready for marketing to all retailers worldwide. We were ready to launch 5 new products by March 2020 which included our new Cordless Iron (Freedom Iron™) and the Cordless Automatic Hair Curler (GO Curler ™). These two products were going to be a game changer in the Household and Beauty industry. Another product that was ready to shake up a billion-dollar industry was our 3in1 shaving system called Freedom Razor™ . It is a razor handle that fits up to 40+ different brands of blades of your choice, and with a trimmer on the other end of the handle – so you could Shave, trim and edge all will just one handle! We even had a celebrity endorsement done on it to market in the United States. But unfortunately, due to the pandemic most of the countries had shut down operations, and purchases. We had no choice but to put everything on hold till consumer products and retail industry got back to normal. We still hoped for the best and continued with our R&D on new concepts to be ready when the world was up and running again. Q: With the ongoing pandemic crisis, what changes occurred and what new avenues did Creative Concepts explore to stay afloat in 2020? A: The pandemic crisis actually opened up a new venture for us. With having old relations with our clients, partners, associates, friends - we were asked to consider developing a range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). After evaluating, we foresaw the possibility of global crisis in the shortage and demand of PPE products worldwide. We then decided to do what we do best with our experience of over 4 decades in Product Designing, R&D, Manufacturing and Global Distribution. We had a little expertise in the medical and PPE category as we were already selling Respirators and Infrared thermometers to some extent. But the demand and request from our clients for PPE product we decided to devote our time in getting the right compliance in place, professional equipment’s, software’s, raw materials supply chain and took the

challenge to create a complete line of PPE products which is now called MediConcepts® a new division of Pantone 185C Pantone 3005C Creative Concepts Manufacturing Group. Q: What is MEDICONCEPTS and what did Creative Concepts do to build this category? A: MediConcepts® is a new division for Creative Concepts Manufacturing Group focusing focusing on Personal Protective Equipment and medical products. With the entire world selling masks, gowns, gloves and hand sanitizers – we had to think outside of the box and get creative to stand out and do it the right way! We had to help millions of people, front liners and hospitals around the world to get PPE products they needed so they could do their job and help their patients. Anyone could just go ahead and purchase the PPE from suppliers in China – it was a buy, sell or a brokerage deal. But who actually checked the quality and compliance of the products that was being shipped? Why were they so many returns and defective quality complaints around the world for the PPE (not to forget the scams)? How was this helping anyone protect themselves from the pandemic? This is where we decided to set-up a team of professionals who would focus on the compliance, labelling, quality assurance of every product before we even decided to bring it to the marketplace. The materials were limited which led to shortages and increase in costs which did not benefit anyone. We focused on getting our own supply of raw materials rather than depending on sub-contractors who may not follow our protocols and guidelines on quality.We then continued to invest in our own machinery to manufacture a range of PPE such as; 3Ply- 4ply Disposable Face Masks, N95-FFP2FFP3 Respirators, Reusable Face Mask , Disposable Isolation Gowns and Hygiene Products like Pocket UV Sterilizers, Sterilizing Caddy, Heavy Duty Home Sanitizing Electrostatic Sprayers, Sensor activated Hand Sanitizing Dispensers. This was a turning point for us because we were manufacturing our own stock lots of the PPE to cater the needs of our clients. A: As known around the world, the demand for N95/ FFP2/FFP3 respirators was a big concern due to the pandemic as the supply was limited and prices were

sky rocketing due to the shortage. Utilizing the expertise from our engineers and the R&D team, we were able to build our own machinery to manufacture the N95 Respirators in-house. We worked with our engineers to come up with a plan on tweaking the machines to produce more respirators at one time. This would not only efficiently increase the weekly capacity by double the quantity reaching up to 10 million pieces a month, but also decrease cost of each respirator. We are proud of our engineers who put in the efforts day and night to come up with an ingenious method of increasing capacity on production of the respirators with keeping high quality standards. This actually helped us to get our ducks in a row and quickly apply for the NIOSH/CE 149 approval on our respirators which is in process.

A: We will continue to develop new concepts, celebrity endorsements, brand licensing and launch them when the consumer product industry is back to reality (hopefully soon). The MediConcepts® division will continue to move along as we plan to introduce the brand in to retail stores worldwide. In our view PostCovid19, most consumers are going to be extra cautious with personal protection and hygiene to stay safe – such as wearing a face mask, sanitizing hands and surfaces, checking temperatures, sterilizing at home as part of their day to day activities. This is going to be the new normal and we just have to accept it going forward. 2020 has definitely been challenging but at the same time we are grateful to be able to do some good for the world and we promise to keep up!

COEGA’S EXPERTISE IN INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT MANAGEMENT WILL HELP SOUTH AFRICA FAST-TRACK ECONOMIC RECOVERY AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Coega Development Corporation (CDC), developer and operator of the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ), recently announced that it has been appointed as the Implementing Agent (IA) to develop and operate the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (TASEZ). The CDC, as a public entity, is the IA of choice in the country due to its unparalleled expertise in mega and complex infrastructure development projects, says Dr. Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC’s Head of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communications. The multi-billion-rand TASEZ will mark an important milestone for the Gauteng Province, City of Tshwane and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (“the dtic”) SEZ programme. “SEZs are a catalyst for employment, transformation, socio-economic development and inclusive industry growth,” says Dr. Vilakazi. “The CDC’s appointment demonstrates our resilience as an organisation, having secured this multi-billion-rand TASEZ project under a difficult operating environment, amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” added Dr. Vilakazi. The CDC provides expertise in the fast and efficient delivery of minor and mega complex infrastructure development projects in South Africa and the rest of the African continent. In addition, Coega has ISO certified systems and processes that guarantee the effective delivery of these projects within scope, time, and budget. “Our record of unqualified audit opinion by the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) on our projects speak for itself. The national government and various provincial government departments trust the CDC with its multibillion- rand infrastructure projects. This has become even more pronounced amid COVID-19 and the need to fast-track economic recovery through infrastructure development and thus, stimulate job creation,” said, Dr. Vilakazi. We are also beginning to see the larger insurers and banks focus their businesses more tightly following losses attributable to the consequences of the pandemic. The pressure on capital bases has accelerated the move to focus on areas of competitive advantage. Insurers are exiting lines of business in which they have underperformed. At the same time, young specialist underwriting businesses are capturing market share. There is a general “hardening” of insurance pricing causing further capital strain. There is a wall of fresh money looking to back the most capable business to capture market share.

Whilst we see this as a favourable backdrop in terms of M&A activity, we have in the past year also widened our service offering to include financial due diligence. Many of our patients are from international families and often attend boarding schools, so we bend over backwards to accommodate appointments around their limited availability, before they return to school or go overseas for the long holidays. Claire Nightingale, the owner and principal orthodontist, has won many national awards in her career, including the first female winner of the Wisdom Dental Student Award in 1988; Highly Recommended First Edition Dental Textbook, in the Medical Book Awards, 2000; the Belle Maudesley Prize, given by the British Orthodontic Society in 2001; Best Orthodontist, London, 2019 GHP Healthcare Awards. She has a great sense of corporate responsibility, sponsoring patients and suppliers in fund raising events; donating to local raffles at school Christmas Fairs; giving dental health education talks to primary school children. In addition she is an enthusiastic mentor, so we have hosted more work experience 6th formers than we can remember; young dentists and other orthodontists have come to visit on electives and scholarships. Covid 19 has inevitably been in our biggest challenge. In the two weeks before lockdown, we anticipated significant interruption of our services and mitigated this by sending out all aligners to our Invisalign patients; bringing forward the removal of patients’ fixed braces if treatment was completed; cancelling planned treatment starts to avoid hazard and new patient appointments to create space in the diary for the more important tasks. From the moment we closed, Claire planned our return to work; prioritising patients who had contacted us in trouble during lockdown (surprisingly few) and those who hadn’t been seen for the longest period of time, whilst sourcing PPE and making significant investments in the practice to improve air flow. As soon as we had the go ahead to reopen, we were ready to resume services and have already seen all of our active patients a number of times, assessed new patients and started a number of new treatments, whereas several other orthodontic practices are still not answering the phone to their patient enquiries. Additionally, we have lost patient referrals from dentists who have employed in house orthodontists, so we have focussed on generating patient referrals from internal marketing and keeping our patients happy.

Innovative Use of Technology

Claire embraces all (sensible) developments in contemporary orthodontics and is an early adopter of technological advances, willing to constantly invest in new technology to improve patient care and efficient delivery of our services. We have recently invested in a dedicated high speed internet line because we recognised we were deleteriously affected by poor internet access locally and need to share high volume digital scans frequently. We have invested in an iTero Element digital scanner to improve patient comfort, share their scans with remote dental laboratories and improve work flow. Finally we have engaged with Remote Monitoring, a self scanning device that enables patients to scan their own teeth on a weekly basis, and allows the team to monitor their progress, without having to come to the practice. This saves on time, unnecessary appointments and unnecessary contact; all of which are particularly important during the Covid pandemic.

Management of Time

We are a small cohesive team of professional people consisting of an orthodontist, dentist, orthodontic therapist, dental nurse, receptionist and cleaner. Whilst Claire Nightingale overseas every patient’s progress, nevertheless it is important to delegate the tasks that can be delegated within the team, so that everyone’s time is managed efficiently, yet focus on training and education opportunities at all times. We try to ensure patients aren’t rushed, not kept waiting unduly, or have excessively long appointments.
