Early Literacy and Technology This Tools for Learning™ Best of the Web includes mostly ad free websites that can support and reinforce essential early literacy skills in Grades K-2. With these sites made available in the classroom and at home, several objectives can be accomplished. • It offers young students a way of practicing reading skills introduced in the classroom. • It provides an opportunity for parents to be directly involved in the reading skill development of their child. • It offers schools a way to extend the learning day and in creating a positive school-home relationship. • It aligns with the new Common Core State Standards in Reading Foundational Skills for Grades K-2.

About the Author Kathleen H. McClaskey, President of Ed Tech Associates, is an educational technology consultant and innovative leader in her 28th year in using technology in the classroom. During that time, she has been a computer teacher, technology integration specialist, K-12 technology director and graduate instructor for Plymouth State University in online and onsite technology courses. Kathleen is a frequent international, national and regional workshop presenter, speaker and consultant on topics that include Technology for Diverse earners, Universal Design for Learning, Math and Technology, The Role of Technology to Improve Early LiteraWy Skills and Literacy Outcomes for All Students and Utilizing Interactive Whiteboards in Group Instruction with Autistic Students. In 2007, she was awarded a threeyear New Hampshire Math and Science Partnership grant for the “Science4All” project where science teachers learned how to apply Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles using accessible technology tools in an inquiry-based science lessons. In 2009, she was awarded the professional development for three ARRA Title IID projects in NH with her professional development design to create 21st Century Classrooms. Kathleen has presented at ISTE 2010, the National Education Computing Conference (NECC), the TRLD Conference, the International Dyslexia Association Conference, TCEA Conference, CUE Conference, Celebration of Teaching and Learning Conference, American Community Schools in Athens, Greece, Schools Moving Up and ISTE Webinars and numerous regional and state conferences in the northeast.
