Funders The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region This organization promotes charitable giving by bridging the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. Emergency feeding programs should note their Neighbors in Need fund, which supports nonprofits providing emergency services. The “More Resources� page provides a long list of other organizations and funders that is quite useful. Lastly, nonprofits can sign up to receive funding notifications.

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program This national program provides funding on the local level for nonprofit organizations that provide clients emergency assistance with basic needs, including food, rent, mortgage, and utilities. Contact the Regional Manager for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program for more information about funding at 703-706-9660.


Taproot Foundation The Taproot Foundation provides Service Grants to DC area nonprofits. Grantees receive high-quality, professional consulting services in a variety of areas – leadership development, technology, marketing – for free!

Workshops, Podcasts, Other Resources The Foundation Center The Foundation Center is a wonderful resource on all things related to fundraising. The Center has a library based in DC where individuals can search for grants using their comprehensive funder database. The Center also offers workshops and has a great online resource center for grant-writing. This website, called Grant Space, is from the National Foundation Center and includes resources on grant-writing, finding funders, and even provides sample documents and podcasts!

Grants Information Resource Center The Office of Partnerships and Grant Services operates a Grants Information Resource Center (GIRC), a computer center with access to funding research databases and the Internet. Visit this website for information on hours, location, and setting up an appointment.

Craigslist Foundation The Craigslist Foundation has a yearly “Bootcamp� that gathers experts in nonprofit management to discuss


fundraising, organizational development, outreach, etc. There are quite a few good podcasts related to fundraising.
