5 STEPS FOR PERFECT LIPSTICK APPLICATION
Kleek apprentice Isabel Rose Till from Joannah Owen Beauty & Wellness in Ormskirk, is working towards her Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Professionals and has produced an amazing step-by-step guide on how to get a perfect lipstick look. This is a fantastic guide which could help other apprentices to master this challenging skill.
If any of the products being used, haven’t been brought in by the client, then use a palette to ensure you’re following hygiene practices.
STEP 1: EXFOLIATION
> Start by applying an exfoliation cream to the lips.
> Gently massage the cream in small, circular motions using an exfoliation brush.
> This process helps remove dead skin and chapped lips, creating a smooth canvas for lipstick application.
> After exfoliating, use a clean, damp cloth to remove any excess cream.
STEP 2: PREP & PRIME
> Apply a lip primer or prep cream to the lips using a small brush.
> This step is essential for ensuring the lipstick adheres well and lasts longer.
STEP 3: LIP LINER
> Choose the correct shade of lip pencil for your clients chosen look. A colour two shades darker than the lipstick will create a defined and fuller lip. A colour one shade darker or the same shade as the lipstick will create a softer look.
> Carefully outline the lips, following the natural lip shape.
> Lip liner helps define the lips and prevents lipstick from bleeding.

STEP 4: LIPSTICK APPLICATION
> Select the appropriate shade of lipstick for your client’s desired look.
> Use a lipstick brush to apply the lipstick evenly to the lips.
> Ensure you cover the entire lip area.
STEP 5: LIP GLOSS
> For a fuller and shinier finish, apply lip gloss.
> Gently spread the lip gloss over the lipstick using a clean brush.
> This final step adds dimension and shine to the overall look.
