Kate
I can’t believe. I’m in Venice, with you Dad, after such a long time.
Dad
Well, Kate, let’s go home, now. Aren’t you tired?
Kate
I’m so excited, and a bit tired, yes. I’m exhausted but happy.
Dad
Come on, give me your bag.
Kate
Dad, dad, look those strange black boat on the water. What are they?
Dad
It’s a gondola. You know it’s typical here in Venice. They’re especially for tourists, but maybe one day you can try it, even if it’s expensive, too expensive.
Kate
Wow, dad. It’s fantastic!!! What a magical city: the bridges, the water.
Dad
It’s the lagoon, my dear, and this is the Canal Grande.
Kate
I’m so excited, so many lights, people, boats, wonderful palaces. It’s like a dream, che bello!!!!!
Dad
Calm down, “fia mia” you’ll have all the time to see everything, but now…let’s go home, your new home.
They walk happily through calli e campielli while talking about their own lives.
Kate
Dad, tell me…what do you do? Have you found a new job? Please, tell me everything. I’m so curious.
Dad
Well, you know, Kate, I’ve got a stall, a very nice stall here in Venice, just in Piazzale Roma, near the new modern bridge over the Canal.
Kate
Oh Dad, I’m so happy, I can’t wait to see it. And what do you sell?
Dad
Every kind of souvenirs for tourists: t-shirts, glasses from Murano, umbrellas, postcards, magnets. I’m very proud of it! Scene 2 (Dad’s home: the main entrance)
Dad
Here we are! Kate, this is OUR house.
