February 6, 2016 Dear Friends of St. Joe's: Welcome to St. Joe's and welcome also to our Buffalo Bash Lasallian Gala and Dinner Auction 2016! We are indeed very pleased that you are able to join us this evening, to witness for yourself some of the young men of St. Joe’s, and to help us create for them, and for so many others like them, the opportunity to be all they want to be, all they deserve to be. Simply, we do thank you so very much for your presence tonight! The Lasallian Gala & Auction continues to be a most important event for everyone in our St. Joe's community as parents, alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends come together to help raise funds for student financial support – to help create opportunity and real possibilities for young men. As has been true since its inception, every dollar raised this evening will be dedicated to assisting families who may not otherwise be able to attend St. Joe's. St. John Baptist de La Salle, our Founder, was moved by the plight of the poor and he used his talents in education to serve the children “who were often left to themselves and badly brought up.” And, while we recognize tonight the myriad signs of rebirth and renewal in our community, we far too often also witness examples of young people marginalized and underserved, especially in the area of quality education. The very real challenge for St. Joe's is to make our school and its premier Catholic Lasallian education accessible to all qualified candidates. It is our continuing hope that, with your help, we will be able to continue to offer the financial support necessary to assist the talented young men of our school – our creative, spirited, and spiritual circle of scholars, athletes and artists! Our goal remains to welcome every student into our community of excellence, and challenge and inspire them throughout their four years at St. Joe's. Your support this evening will assure that we carry forward with our mission in preparing our young men for college, for meaningful citizenship in Western New York and elsewhere, and for life! Tonight, I thank each of you for helping to make this possible. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful evening and invite you to explore and bid on all of the fantastic gifts that have been donated. While you do so, please also take a look around the school – you will notice young men selling raffle tickets, playing in the Jazz Lab Band, and serving a delicious meal from Oliver's. Young men like these – minimally 7 out of every 10 of our students who receive financial assistance of some kind – and the opportunity they represent, are why we are all here tonight supporting the efforts of the 2016 Lasallian Gala & Auction. Finally, take the occasion to patronize and thank the individuals and businesses who have contributed their advertisement, patronage, and services to our catalog and Auction. Welcome to Lasallian 2016, a celebration of the special brotherhood and unique community of St. JosephÕ s Collegiate Institute and our alumni contributions to Western New York. For our guests tonight from outside the community, you might be wondering about: St. John Baptist de La Salle Founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools Patron Saint of Teachers
De La Salle's vision of Christian education was based on a high ideal for the teacher-student relationship. He insisted that the teacher know each student as an individual person, reaching out and treating each student differently according to the studentÕ s special needs. This is the hallmark of the education our young men receive at St. JoeÕ s.
Lasallian Education The Lasallian educational mission provides transformative experiences that are innovative and holistic. That education is defined by five core principals set forth by de La Salle and represented in the five-pointed star: respect for all people, quality education, inclusive community, concern for the poor and social justice, and faith in the Holy Presence of God.

The official seal of St. Joseph Collegiate Institute was adapted from the seal of the Institute of the Christian Brothers. The five-point star is positioned on a shield with the inscription, Ò Signum Fidei,Ó which is Latin for Ò sign of faith.Ó

AUCTION PROCEDURES SILENT AUCTION • All silent auction areas will open at 5:30 p.m. • Bids are placed using the assigned bidder number printed on your Gala night bidding paddle. • This number matches your name with the Auction database and bank for all your bidding and purchases throughout the evening. • Each item in the Silent Auction has a bid sheet. Place a bid by printing your assigned bidder number on the appropriate line. Please print clearly, since illegible bids will be discarded. Under no circumstances may a bid sheet be removed or earlier bids crossed out. • Each opening bid must equal or exceed the minimum bid indicated and you must increase the bid by at least the next minimum raise indicated. • An item is closed when a bid is placed in the “Guaranteed Purchase Box” or an Auction Official closes the bidding area at the posted closing time. No further bids will be accepted for that item, with no exceptions. • Any bids entered after official closing of an area will not be recognized.
CHECK-OUT & PAYMENT • All sales are final. There will be no cash refunds with goods exchangeable only where specified. • Payment in full is to be made on the evening of the Gala by Cash, Check, or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express.) • All items and certificates must be picked up on Gala night unless other arrangements are agreed to. • Purchasers are bound by any restrictions or expiration dates as specified by the donor. Unless otherwise noted, all goods and services must be claimed and used within one year of the auction date. • If appropriate, please contact the donor as soon as possible to finalize arrangements.

LIVE AUCTION • The "First Choice" raffle drawing will take place just prior to the start of the Live Auction. The winner will select the $4,000 tuition voucher, one item from the Live Auction section or receive $3,000 cash. If the winner is not present, and has not indicated their choice on their ticket, they will be awarded the prize of $3,000. • During dinner, the Live Auction will commence and continue without interruption until all items have been auctioned. • Please hold your bidding number high in the air so there is no question of your intention to bid. Do not hesitate to verbalize your bid. • Decisions of the auctioneer are final. • The winning bid number will be recorded and will constitute the bidder's agreement to pay this amount.

You may provide either a signed blank check made payable to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute or provide your credit card information (Visa, MasterCard or American Express). • At the end of the evening, head to the “QuickCheck” table outside the cafeteria. Review your final purchase statement and then proceed directly to Gift Depot to pick-up your items. • We will complete the payment process for you.
