Thursday 6 February 2014 7.30pm Huddersfield Town Hall
Orchestra of Opera North Shelley father and son
Howard Shelley
With its reputation as one of the toughest of all piano works to perform, Rachmaninov’s Third Concerto is a breathtaking experience when heard live. It is apt that this musical Everest is the first public performance together of a remarkable father and son pairing. Howard Shelley is one of the UK’s most highly esteemed pianists, a favourite on the international stage, and his gifted son Alexander won the 2005 Leeds Conducting Competition. The evening kicks off with MacMillan’s madcap Stomp, where Mozart and Tchaikovsky crash together, and ends with César Franck’s only symphony. Full of energy and joy, it is the perfect way to round off a unique occasion. MacMillan
