OSScamp Pantnagar February 2009 Sponsorship Guide

Welcome to OSScamps: a series of community driven unconferences specifically targeted at the promotion of FOSS implementation and development in India. We are a community of over 300+ geeks and geeks-to-be, pan-India, who come together every few months in a camp to share their experiences, best practices, and wisdom on FOSS all across the nation. Organized on the lines of Bar Camps, OSScamps is a series of intense communitydriven unconferences specifically targeted at the promotion of FOSS implementation and development in India. OSScamps serves as a gangplank for tech professionals, geeks and geeks-to-be to discuss and share their knowledge through demos, presentations and interactions among the campers. These camps are an endeavor to gather and collaborate on open source technologies and tools. With the help of this guide, we will try to rid you of your hard-earned money and perhaps earn you some blessings of the pizza-craving community (and if you are lucky, some positive karma bytes). The objective of this guide is to make you aware of the ways you can sponsor the unconference and the possible benefits for your organisation. WHAT ARE OSSCAMPS OSScamp is not just a thriving, young and vibrant community of open source enthusiasts in India, It is also the largest unconference on open source in India. Wikipedia: "Unconferences are a facilitated, participant-driven discussion centered around a theme or purpose. The term "unconference" has been applied, or selfapplied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations". The OSScamp community revolves around such unconferences that we love to call as camps. These camps are fun technology events – unconferences that do not recognize any rules, formality and limitations. OSScamps are a collective of technology enthusiasts (geeks and geeks-to-be) under a single roof: there is no set schedule for the day, there is no definite plan of events; everything is defined by the participants on the spot, at run-time. And they are free-for-all events [pay attention, sponsors!]. At the Camp, we love to cross-talk, huddle together, raise some noise, celebrate technology, discuss stuff, and what not! We are a year old, learning to walk, baby speaking on loud, and with a cape tied on our backs, we dream of soaring high in the sky.

WHY SPONSOR

The first question to be answered is why should you be interested in sponsoring OSScamps. Now that's a question, isn't it? Seriously, we could give you one hundred and one justifications, explaining how sponsoring OSScamp is going to earn you the blessings of all the pizza-craving campers and lots of positive karma bytes, but we'd just stop with hinting at you how good it will be for a business to target a niche collective of developers and users of technology and softwares that these very businesses are developing or providing. To add to that a major chunk of participants at OSScamps is from the student community - young blood, fresh ideas - if you know what that means ;) All in all, we will only claim that OSScamps draw together the best minds aligned with FOSS (and FOSS alone) and how that can benefit a sponsoring company (you ask?) use your imagination please. DEMOGRAPHICS Around 300+ campers are expected to participate at the camp. We are expecting: People from Pantnagar People from Rest of India

200 100

The participants would be from varied technology domains, students, teachers, developers, users, etc. Our rough estimate of the same is: Students Teachers Developers Users

150 50 100 All of them ;)

BENEFITS Sponsorships at OSScamps are a no-frills affair. We prefer that sponsors help us in kind rather than cash. What we mean is: Arrange-don't-pay instead of pay-and-forget. That saves us a lot of trouble and helps us focus on organizing a quality camp. If you would like to help sponsor the event, this may be the right opportunity for brand building, interacting with niche collectives, demo out your FOSS projects, amongst OSScamp Pantnagar Sponsorship Guide: Last updated 14 December 2008
