ALUMNI NEWS
Josh Adams lives in Charlotte, NC, with his wife Tracey and their two daughters, Abby (ten) and Jessie (six), and their two dachshunds, Samurai and Kamikaze. Josh and Tracey are literary agents representing children’s and YA authors, and work together at Adams Literary, the business they started in NYC. Josh, Tracey and Abby are all second-degree blackbelts in Taekwondo, and Jessie (who, unrelated to her martial arts training, just lost her first tooth) is on her way to earning her first-degree blackbelt too. When he’s not doing sword training, Josh and his family enjoy traveling, cooking, watching movies and bicycling. John Bakht and his wife Cully have recently moved out of the Woodlands and are moving back to Houston. They should move in around Thanksgiving and hope to reconnect with many of the old classmates soon. Their eldest son Eli started sixth grade at Kinkaid this year, and middle son Sam is in third grade at Bunker Hill Elementary. Their youngest Philip, who was born in Dubai, is at Chapelwood. He really enjoyed the reunion and hopes someone will put something together before another five years go by. Candace Brown Johnson is living in Johns Creek, Georgia with her husband Artis and their seven-year-old daughter Caitlin. She enjoys playing tennis and golf around Caitlin’s busy social schedule and after school activities. She also enjoys playing the piano for the choirs and teaching Sunday School and Children’s Church at their church. Jed Brown still lives in Laredo and has for the past 20+ years. His wife Belinda is still a state judge, and she “judges” him all the time. His son Walker is now a sophomore in high school. Walker plays football and baseball for his high school, and Jed is pleased to report he is much more well-rounded than his father. He is on the CX and extemporaneous debate teams, student council, and numerous other clubs. Jed works in real estate development and construction with his two brothers, Doak Brown ’92 and Wil Brown ’95, along with his father. He also enjoys traveling and hunting. This past September he spent two weeks guiding for grizzly bear in Alaska and just this past week he shot a large whitetail deer with his bow. He expects this buck will end up being one of the larger ones taken in Texas and the U.S. this season. Mark Crosswell is married with four kids. Mark and his wife just opened up a new natural-based allergy clinic in Houston. Shannon Dyer Dowell
keeps busy with husband Kelly, kids, design work and wendow (her store in Austin) and wishes life always happened in that order! She loves her work and is blessed with the support she has from her amazing husband and very independent children Patrick (sophomore in high school) & Drew (eigth grade). Andy Edison is actually on the airplane back from D.C. as he writes his update. He ran the Marine Corps Marathon earlier in Washington D.C. in memory of a friend who passed away last year. It was his fifth—and final—marathon. It was a lot of fun, but he is getting too old to do this stuff!!! In other news, his daughter Shelby celebrated her 10th birthday earlier this month. Her birthday cake for her party was made by none other than our own Jennifer Jones, who has put together a terrific cake making business on the side. Although he has been busy with work, travel has been his family’s passion. He spent a week on the East Coast visiting historic sites, travelled across the pond to England/Scotland over the summer and will spend the holidays in Borneo. He is also trying to fulfill his goal of attending every big sporting event—he went to the London Olympics, ArenaBowl XXV and the Ryder Cup this year. Stephen Eubank is in his eighth year of in-house counsel with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation as senior counsel for benefits, labor, and employment. His wife Kelley has completed her dermatology residency and is about to start practicing inside the loop, while he commutes daily to The Woodlands. In October 2011, they had their first child, Benjamin, and he is doing great. Nina Phuong Ha was married on Friday, January 6 at the Harvard Club of New York to Stephen Girasuolo. On Thursday, January 5 a Buddhist priest performed a ceremony that incorporated Vietnamese traditions at the Unitarian Church of All Souls New York. The library themed wedding had bookmarks as escort cards, book pages as table numbers and even a vintage Smith Corona typewriter. Attending the wedding were fellow 1987 classmates: Maria Boulafendis, Diana Munson Kayser (Dee Dee Munson) and Claire Chung. Tracie Hall recently had lunch with a fellow classmate after discovering the classmate works for a client. Other than returning to Houston and entering law school last year, all is well. Hopefully she will catch up with other classmates while she is in Houston. Michael Harter and wife Rebecca have been married 15
