THE KINKAID SCHOOL

my own name much less all of these new kids.” We feel your pain, David! Rob Wilson was happy that Ernie & Janice came in town on June 23rd to celebrate the wedding of son Carson Wilson ’98 and his wife Lindsey. I, Pat Kidson Cavanagh, continue to work as Kinkaid Lower School’s reading specialist. I’m having lots of mini-reunions with lower school parents who were in school with my kids, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Will Fogle. My husband Craig and I stay very busy with our respective projects. Craig has been a docent at the Houston Holocaust Museum for over ten years, and he is a regular substitute in Kinkaid’s upper school. Our adorable and brilliant grandchildren (unbiased opinion!) are spread all over the country, but we try to see them as often as we can. Our newest addition, Roy Douglas Warriner, was born just last month in Wake Forest, North Carolina, making Richard and Rebecca Fogle Warriner parents for the third time. Blessings to each of you. Please stay in touch.

1967 Steve Adger Houston, Texas sadger@yahoo.com Kingslea Thomas has some very good news – she is now going by Kingslea von Helms. She and Michael were married on July 7 in a small, all-family affair at her parent’s home. Michael is a non-figural, abstract artist working in oil. He grew up in Santa Fe, NM and has four children and seven grandchildren. She reports that life is happy & full. Sounds very full to me with 12+ new birthdays to remember. From personal experience it’s getting harder to remember these new key dates as our families grow with grandchildren & in-laws. Kingslea also notes that she is serving on The Garden Club of America executive committee as Recording Secretary. Buddy Trotter reports in that in January he and Cheryl welcomed

their second grandchild, Hudson Fletcher Delano, into our world. He joins his two-year-old sister, Lexi, as ‘the most doted-over grandkids around’. Probably a tie with someone in our class. Buddy is releasing another CD this year, “Cycle of Life”. David Dunwoody and his wife Kackie have a new granddaughter, Margaret Vivien Collins (Greta). Greta lives in NYC with her parents, Lauren ’93 & Porter Collins. Laurye Rutten Tanner sent word that, yet again, she and Carlos went on a cruise. They must be in the Admiral’s Club of some cruise line by now. They were a few weeks early for the fall foliage in the northeast, but the lobster was bountiful. She got back in time to welcome a visit from her sister and brother-in-law and go to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. She is back to teaching one night a week – Algebra to adults. She must live amongst a bunch of people who have led very full lives to want to take Algebra again. Life is good in Houston – the economy is great and the Texans are winning!

1968 Elizabeth Topper Nash San Marcos, Texas enash@grandecom.net Annie Owen Houston, Texas aniedowen@me.com Our class has great memories of Bert Meyer, Lynn Meyer Fort’s mother. She was always present at Kinkaid, whether volunteering, cheering from the bleachers, or chaperoning on away games. She truly loved our class and Kinkaid. I would say that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree! We appreciate Lynn as she rises to the call again. Out of retirement, and in between grandchildren, Lynn is pitching in at Kinkaid and helping to plan another reunion, just another warm up to the “big one”.

Speaking of away games, as we all tend to love, some UT Longhorn fans were found tailgating at the Ole Miss game. Spotted in Memphis at The Peabody Hotel, was Jack Lee, wondering what in the world he was doing there! At the beautiful home of Buffy and Tommy Adams, I snapped a photo of a few familiar Falcons; Steve Lasher, Laura and Billy Wheless, Ed Frank, Tommy Adams and me! (Elizabeth Nash) Also sent in for this edition is a photo of Mike Kuhn behind the wheel of his new toy. Annie Owen submits that her neighborhood is filling up with classmates. Susan Peck Massey who has definitely not downsized, is a five minute walk away. Annie, taking advantage of her proximity, trades ginger lilies for fresh produce from Susan’s garden. Don’t tell Jack, he’ll be over with a basket! Elizabeth and Annie attended a reception for David Rockefeller whose foundation, “Sailors for the Sea”, is educating us on preserving our precious coastal waters. Coincidentally, the foundation is based in Newport, RI, where Anne has just returned from a week of bailing water and Hurricane Sandy. The waves were 35 feet tall in her cove and winds 70 mph. Lynn Meyer Fort writes that she and Ron have a new grandson, Seve (like the golfer) Valdes Fort, born on September 11 to son Chris Fort ’92, and daughter-in-law Isabelle Fort. Now they have something positive to remember on that date! Lynn’s mother died on Sept. 16 so it was a crazy, emotional week for their family. Their younger son Taylor Fort ’03 lives in Torrance, CA and should be getting engaged any time now to a wonderful woman named Judy Lee (no relationship to Jack!) ( But could???) So life is great and she’s looking forward to seeing everyone at our 45th reunion!

It was great to hear from Steve Neumann. At 62 years old, he finds himself entrenched in being a “super father”. Jackie (seven) and Stevie (nine) have learned where

the buttons are, what things cost and why the absolutely must have “things” of life will immediately end. Janet is now in full retirement from Tiffany & Co., and is the room mother to both girls at West U., not to mention a super fundraiser for the PTO. Her days are 20 hours long and she does not make a penny for all the work done! Steve’s design practice now takes him to Marshfield, Wisconsin every week for a corporate branding changeover and signage implementation program at 92 facilities throughout their state. He has yet to meet anyone up there who actually voted for Obama.... But he, again, got to see “fall colors”, ultimate Kodak moments. His beard is now 100% gray, hair looks like a “bozo” moment (at least it is still there), and the cardiologist says that he can now celebrate a then year anniversary of having too much fun. He sends his best to everyone and hopes all are well. He is still looking for the instruction manual that belongs with the girls, all of them. He claims he was not prepared at his age… Steve, having raised three daughters and three weddings back to back,… you can never retire, in fact, you need a night job! Bright side, you get grandSONS!!! Mark your calendars now as we are looking forward to seeing everyone in April at our 45th reunion and keep the news flowing… Elizabeth and Anne

1970 Malcolm Waddell Houston, Texas mwaddell@waddellinvestments.com Thanksgiving is fast approaching, it’s the Tuesday before, and our family is about to head to San Diego in the morning to spend the holiday with Suzanne’s brother and sister-in-law and the rest of her/our family. But before we go, I’ve got news to share from our classmates.
