WINTER 2013

Class Notes and Alumni News 1929 – 1940’s Jane Hoffert Moore ’46 1620 Calumet Street, Quarter 1 Houston, Texas 77004 713.529.9700 Carolyn Fay ’29 was feeling pretty good after Thanksgiving. She doesn’t get out much. We still hope to pick a good day to have tea. I will bring the crumpets, Carolyn. Carolyn’s daughter Marie Evnochides ’59 is on our Alumni Board. Mildred Wood Sherwood ’30 speaks with a strong voice and remembers our school. She told me her children live in France and Savannah, Georgia. Alice Evans Pratt ’30 plans to be with friends both for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not sure of exact plans, she will wait to hear the details. Alice is 97 and is looking forward to reaching 100. She told me Director of Advancement Tom Moore is a good friend and she likes him so much. Don’t we all. This is a wonderful amazing lady with a strong spirit. Albert Sterling ’32 is the last member of his class and he recalls all of them so well. He still drives to his office at least once a week. He also picks up his sister, Frances Thurow, on Thursday evenings to go out to dinner. Albert and Frances are the niece and nephew of Ross Sterling, the former governor of Texas. Albert is a delight to talk with – a true inspiration. I had a wonderful visit with James Isaacks ’40. His sister, Lynn, was in my class and we were all at Baylor. Lynn died in 2010. James turned 90 in September and has an amazing, strong voice and no health problems. He was one of Kinkaid’s record makers in sports. He was especially interested in the recent land acquisition. He and Nancy live a few minutes north of San Antonio in Bulverde. Rosilind (Roz) Pincoffs Zimmerman ’40 had a family Thanksgiving in Houston and will have Christmas here with grandchildren and great grandchildren – what fun! In January Roz will take a Caribbean Cruise to relax and enjoy life – what a great start to the New Year! Barbara Golding Kimbrough ’40 says that her daughter lives near her in Haskell, Texas where she and John moved to in 1949 to live the ranch life where he grew up. Barbara plays bridge regularly. Her son lives in Castle Rock, Colorado and her grandson John Kimbrough, named for his

grandfather, lives in College Station and is often called upon by A&M to do a historical. I enjoyed visiting with Patricia Hunter Reuter ’44. She has two sons in Houston; two live in Tyler and her daughter is in California. She said she thought Mrs. Kinkaid (her aunt) would be very thrilled with the new school and the new land. Patricia has never seen it; hopefully I can arrange a visit with her soon. Lois Plummer Wachter ’44 is still teaching and sharing her talents with many students. She has a production of La Traviata at the Country Playhouse on January 27, 2013. She also has a voice competition at St. Thomas on May 19, 2013. Lois always has an activity of great quality to offer in the music world. The “mighty eleven” is now five. We lost Bland McReynolds ’46 on September 27. A memorial service was held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on October 9. The remembrances of their father by Melanie McReynolds Lehmberg ’79, John McReynolds ’81 and Joe McReynolds ’86 were wonderful, both respectful and humorous. Bland was an outstanding and important member of our class who we all loved and will cherish our personal memories of our Kinkaid years together. Beverly Clark Campbell ’46 has kept me informed of her two moves from her lovely high-rise to a nice assisted living location where her needs are better met and still close to her daughter, Elizabeth. Beverly has such a wonderful and uplifting positive attitude. Our visits are informative and fun. Her new address is 2090 N. Congress Avenue #214, West Palm Beach, Florida, 33401. Drop her a note. Robin Gill Stanford ’46 had a wonderful early fall trip to Italy, taking in all the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Florence and Rome. Robin didn’t gain a pound. She spent Thanksgiving at Lake Travis in Georgetown, Texas and will meet Santa Claus in Houston with her clan. I have tried getting in touch with Hendley Tomlinson ’46 on his 409.385.2921 number to find it is not in service. Peggy or children please give me a call and a report on your new phone and a corrected address. A package was sent from the Alumni Office recently – hope you received it. I have tried to reach Caro Ivy Walker ’46 and her family but have not heard from them. Caro is not
