Wishing everyone a good and safe summer! Let me remind you to look for anything you wish to give to the Kinkaid archives this summer when you have the time. If you find something to give to the history of the School, I will make arrangements for pick up. I plan to write a more detailed article in the next issue of the Kinkaid magazine so please call me or send me any news. I look forward to hearing from you!

SUMMER 2014
Harvey Kincaid and his wife Nancy have been living in Geneva, Switzerland. He says that he can look out of his window at work and see Mount Blanc. Last year, he was asked to take the assignment of Head of Lab for his operations in Europe, and he thought about it for at least three nanoseconds before saying yes. Harvey and Nancy will return to the US soon and meet their grandson (#7) for the first time. Another granddaughter will join the fold in May. Home is Indianapolis, which is where they are headed next. Their son #3 has been house sitting for them as he did when they went to China for two years. Harvey said the formula worked then, and hopefully they find the house intact this time around. Sassy English Stanton’s sons Troy Stanton ’89 and Austin Stanton are now partners at Regency Telecommunications. They have made major expansions in the company and are moving into operations outside Texas. Troy has two children: Tyler (10) and Carley (8). Austin also has two children: James (9) and Andrew (6).

Adrian Turner Ross Houston, Texas adrian@rexross.com Dear 1962 Classmates: I hope you are all having a great summer. With the exception of three or four of us, you are now into a new birthday decade, and I will delicately not mention which one.
Van Russell ‘62 met Charles Simmons ‘05 during Charles’ wedding weekend at Barton Creek Resort, where Van serves as a Golf Starter
await the grandkids’ visit there. Barry is also planning a trip to Houston later in the summer to connect with old friends. Dorothy Knox Howe Houghton continues her busy life. She is now the president of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Texas. It is a two-year job – a big one! She will take an extended trip to Europe this summer to attend events at Sulgrave Manor and will join the Texas Exes’ trip to Burgundy. Donna Donelson is heading to Santa Fe in August for the Ethnographic Fair, the Antique Native American Art Fair, the opera and cooler weather! Susan Cooper Gaudet claims to have no news, but “all is well here” is news in itself! I am happy to hear from anyone who can report that all is well.
John Butcher and his wife have moved from California to Birmingham, Alabama, to be near their daughter Meredith who is an editor for Oxmoor (Southern Living cookbooks). They are enjoying the southern hospitality and the golf, although he has noticed that there are numerous trees on the courses there. Perhaps a “foot-wedge” would be helpful?
In April of 2014 we attended our first Kinkaid Field Day since our youngest son graduated in 1995. There was no stilt race, hoop race or stick-horse race, but the tug-o-war lives on! Even though there have been may changes to the events and venue, it is still as special to the Kinkaid community as it was more than 50 years ago when we were there. It was fun watching our five-year-old granddaughter march around the May Pole.
Speaking of golfers, Van Russell continues his part-time job in Golf Operations at Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin. As a Starter, he helped host the wedding golf group of Charles Simmons ’05 on May 24. In addition to visiting with Charles, Van had the privilege of meeting many Kinkaid graduates who were guests at the wedding weekend.
I probably should tap Gibson Carothers to take over this reporting job as his (fictional) reports are much more entertaining than my true ones. Gibson writes: “Happy 70th Birthday to all my classmates. Having skipped grades 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11, I won’t be reaching that milestone for some time, but I can still be happy for all of you.”
Barry Rose and Judy are heading to Idaho to visit their grandkids, Annabel (8) and Miles (6), and then Barry and Judy will head back to the Rose’s home in Oxford, Mississippi, to

Calanne Koenig Choate Pearland, Texas mayamom@hotmail.com Hello all! Must not be much happening this summer or maybe there’s a lot of stuff happening. Either way, you guys did not respond. I hope all is well with our class! To start, our buddy Carlton Carl is ever helpful when it comes to updates! Thanks so much, Carlton! He says the following: “LULAC’s annual Viva Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Parade and Menudo Cook-Off, held for 40 years in San Marcos, moved to beautiful downtown Martindale this year. The parade was huge (with about 50 participants including U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett and his wife Libby); the crowd was significant (2,000-3,000 versus Martindale population of 1,200); and the menudo… Well, menudo… And I didn’t even have a hangover. Martindale will still have its traditional 4th of July Parade and San Marcos River Bottom Picnic (same place for 104 years). Sustainable Martindale began a Martindale Market last fall, a farmers’ market that started out once a month and has been so successful that it is now held every Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. So, if you are in the neighborhood, stop by. Several friends and I are headed in August to the Cotswolds (an hour or so outside of London), home of an old Austin friend and his wife, for a few days and then to the friends’ villa in Portugal (on a
