SEASON STATS & SUMMARY
TEAM RANK: Thirteenth Place
OVER-ALL RECORD: 10-8
Head Coach Ellen Wallace: The 2012 Girls Golf team was a very small group of dedicated and enthusiastic athletes. Led by junior co-captains Ellye Anderson and Kate Bentsen, the team represented Kinkaid at five tournaments during the regular season. Sophomores Katherine Fisher and Emily Nip combined with Ellye and Kate to portrayed Kinkaid in the most positive light at every opportunity whether on the course in competition or practicing at the driving range. After shooting 321 at the first competition of the season and finishing fifth, the team represented the SPC well against the 5A public schools in Cy Fair placing sixth out of twelve. Traveling to Bastrop for the St. John's Invitational, the team finished sixth but only 11 strokes out of third. With only two players able to compete the following week in the Cooper invitational, Ellye and Emily played as individual medalists, not as a team. At Episcopal’s regular season-ending tournament, the team seemed ready to peak. Ellye and Katherine had career bests of 88 and 111 respectively. Kate and Emily played well and the team recorded a season’s best third place finish. The chances of improving on last year’s finish at SPC looked promising. Unfortunately, when an injury sidelined the #2 player, the team had to compete at less than full strength. The players showed incredible reliance refusing to give up, played one hole at a time and finished ahead of archrival Episcopal. With everyone returning next season, the future of the program is in good hands!

We had two senior co-captains: Madeline Brown and Emmy Sprague; and eight juniors: Mollie Gaylor, Carolyn Dyer, Alexandra Cokinos, Carroll Ison, Jacklyn Jacobe, Christina Fondren, Ellen Thanheiser and Savannah Friedkin. The same number of underclassmen were six sophomores: Tory Smith, Audrey Briscoe, Allison Sprague, Hannah Harrell, Seagren Wilson and Jane Elizabeth Towns; and four freshmen: Frances Andrews, Allison Dyer, Grace Notestine and Emma Eggleston. Our managers this spring were juniors Declan Mawer and Sumant Agrawal. We started off the season with a strong showing at the St. John’s Playday and two successful weekend trips to Dallas and Austin to play strong competition and challenge our team early in the season. It was exciting this spring to watch our team pull out exciting wins in close games including the Woodlands (game-winner in the last minute), Memorial (double-overtime sudden victory win), Bellaire (game-winner in the last seconds) and SPC rival St. Andrew’s. Five times this season our games were decided by only one goal! Our attack scored 237 goals and defensively we only allowed 224 goals against us. For the first time in years, we finished as the #4 Division I team in the city and repeated as #3 SPC team in the South behind the eventual SPC champion and runner-up. Watch out for next year’s squad to return all but two graduating seniors and look to make a strong run for the SPC crown.
