46 Bridging a Divide Through Park Design
Washington, D.C.’s 11th Street Bridge Park was conceived by a visionary nonprofit, Building Bridges Across the River (BBAR). BBAR’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adults who reside east of the Anacostia River by providing leadership, management and financial oversight of Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC). Along the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada are parks, and, like parks across the rest of the country, they face challenges they must work to overcome, including with staffing, community engagement and funding. In addition to these

As recreation professionals, we are always looking for ways to make our parks and programs accessible and welcoming to all members of our diverse communities. So, how can we promote inclusion for participants on the gender spectrum?
