New pedestrian crossing for Mission Road

A new pedestrian crossing linking the Mission Road entrance to Beech Road car park could being construction in September this year.

Newly appointed Mayor Cllr Brendan Cronin has be pushing for the provision of crossing for years.

It now seems that this will become a reality.

At this week’s Killarney Municipal District meeting he asked: “When will construction begin of the vitally important crossing on Mission Road from Beech Road Car Park to the Killarney House entrance?”

A council office replied: “The Feasibility Report, Design Report and Safety Audit as required by Transport infrastructure Ireland have been completed. Kerry

County Council is finalising documentation and it is expected that this will be advertised by mid-July, with a view to present a report to the members at the September Meeting. Subject to approval, this will allow for the works to commence in late September or early October.”
