Cluasa Hearing Services C

LUASA HEARING SERVICES is a private audiology clinic at The Reeks Gateway in Killarney that provides comprehensive hearing assessment for babies, children and adults, as well as hearing aid fittings and rehabilitation. The office is fitted with a state-of-the-art paediatric audiometric booth, ensuring that testing is accurate and meeting UK standards for paediatric testing. All equipment is brand new and suitable for paediatric and adult diagnostic testing. Cluasa Hearing Services offers services such as diagnostic hearing assessments for adults, hearing aid fittings with real ear measurements, testing for babies and young children in a paediatric sound booth, and testing for Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD). Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) is estimated to affect two per cent of children and makes listening in noisy situations extremely difficult. Maria Vaughan, an audiological scientist, offers diagnostic, management and remedial services for CAPD. Maria Vaughan, BSc MScAud – CAC, CCP, is the Director and Principal Audiologist of Cluasa Hearing Services. She completed her Master’s Degree in Audiology in 2001 at University of Southampton and received her Certificate of Clinical practice in Manchester, UK. “Cluasa Hearing is the only provider who tests for CAPD outside of Dublin,” said Maria.

“The service is available for children aged seven and above who do not have a hearing loss, are suspected of having CAPD and have difficulty understanding speech in noisy situations, such as in the classroom. This CAPD program is based on recommendations from Australia’s finest research division—the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL)—and includes NAL’s proven test and remediation tool developed for a type of CAPD known as Spatial Processing Disorder (SPD). Since graduating, Maria’s career has primarily focused on diagnostic paediatric audiology and rehabilitation for both children and adults. She has extensive experience in standard and complex paediatric behavioural assessments and auditory processing assessments. She is also very experienced at fitting hearing aids and other amplification devices to both adults and children. She has nearly 20 years’ audiology experience in Ireland, UK and Australia. Maria has held various senior audiology positions prior to starting Cluasa Hearing Services, including Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin, and Telethon Speech and Hearing and Australian Hearing, both in Perth, Australia. She has spent the last decade in Australia where she worked as a senior audiological scientist for Australian Hearing. Australian Hearing is one of the world’s leading hearing and research services.
