The Do More Good Challenge _________________________________________ We've created tools and a book list to help teach this week's challenge!

I Am So Brave! by Stephen Krensky

Silly Billy by Anthony Browne

The Don't Worry Book by Todd Parr

Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival

Practice being BRAVE and try something new. Let’s face our worries and be BRAVE together! We can’t deny that these past few months have brought many changes for our little ones. Some children will be comfortable talking about these changes and their feelings but others are not, so those feelings may come out in other ways/behaviors.

Put it into action: 1. At times, hoping to not add anxiety or stress onto our children, we may avoid difficult conversations. Simply inviting conversations with open ended questions will allow children to share at their own pace. Follow their lead. 2. Use this week's magic doll project, wondering how the doll might feel. You can also use stories, exploring the emotions of the characters in the book. 3. Begin to explore ways to cope—deep breaths, drawing, hugging, talking, etc. 4. Use affirmations to remind your little one that they are brave, citing something they used to be afraid to do that they can now do and inspire hope, while validating current concerns. 5. Don’t forget to take care of yourself too, grownups! You can make your own magic doll. The simple practice of wrapping yarn around a stick can be quite relaxing!

The Do More Good Project _________________________________________ Create Your Own Magic Doll

Supplies Yarn Fabric Swatches Popsicle Stick/Stick/Pipe Cleaners/Toilet Paper Roll Markers Paper Glue Scissors Sequins, Buttons and Other Decorationsl

Directions 1. Take a popsicle stick, toilet paper roll, pipe cleaner, or stick as the body of the magic doll. 2. Wrap with fabric, yarn, or string to decorate. 3. Add embellishments like buttons, pipe cleaner arms, or draw eyes for the face.

All About Magic Dolls Magic Dolls are inspired by the “Worry Dolls” that originated in Guatemala. These handcrafted dolls are usually made of sticks or wood wrapped in colorful fabric or yarn. Legend has it that a child tells worries to the doll and then places it in a box or under a pillow when they go to sleep. When they wake up, the worries are gone as a child feels brave and ready to take on the day. The true purpose of the Worry Doll is to allow children an opportunity to share their fears and concerns. It is often easier to tell a doll then speak to others directly.

Meet the Playground Pal of the Week. ____________________ THE DOYLE FAMILY

upper east side, ny

Meet Callan, 3.4 years Q: WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES THE PLAYGROUND SO SPECIAL? The class topics are things I would expect for older kids but it’s been so cool to see Callan doing science experiments and learning about artists like Picasso and Roy Lichtenstein at this age! The teachers are also all so warm and even though we aren’t in the same room, it never feels like we’re disconnected!

Q: HAS YOUR FAMILY BUILT A CONSISTENT ROUTINE AROUND VISITING THE KIDVILLE PLAYGROUND OR DO YOU FIND IT BETTER TO POP IN RANDOMLY? We initially popped in randomly but honestly after trying other online classes, they just weren’t as interesting and it showed in Callan’s lack of concentration. He loves looking forward to seeing his favorite teachers now!

Callan loved Mess Lab with Maker Morgan where he discovered what happens when you mix vinegar with baking soda and water! The look on his face was priceless!
