Medication

If your child will be taking medication during camp hours, you will need to complete and return a Medication Order Form along with the medication in its original packaging. All medications will be safely stored and a record will be kept of each dose given. Forms will be available at camp or may be printed from our website www.KidsCoOnline.com.

What Should I Bring To Camp? Infant & Toddler Supplies

(6 weeks-18 months) Rest Items Each child should have a ventilated (lightweight or knitted) blanket along with a comfort item (lovey) available for their rest time each day. Families may pack these 2

items on Monday and they will be sent home each Friday for laundering. KidsCo Jr. will provide all crib sheets and will ensure that the bedding is changed twice weekly. Stuffed animals, heavy blankets, and pillows are not appropriate for children in cribs. Toddlers over one year old will be sleeping on a cot so, a small pillow may be comfortable for them. Extra Clothing Children should have two (2) complete sets of seasonally appropriate and well-fitting clothes to leave at the center. Don’t forget to label items with your child’s name and replace items that go home to be washed. Appropriate Daily Clothing Please check the forecast each morning and prepare an outfit accordingly. If it has just rained, please pack boots for puddles and mud; windy days would call for jackets with hoods, etc. When looking for indoor and outdoor clothing, please choose items that are durable, comfortable, and washable that are easy for your child to put on and take off. This also includes shoes! Crocs, platform, heeledsoles, and open flip-flops hinder toddlers learning to walk and often trip or blister older children. Children at KidsCo Jr. often get dirty or messy at camp during projects and outdoor activities. Washable clothes that can get dirty or messy are the best options.

Infant Nutrition Guidelines Parents will need to bring a daily supply of formula and baby food; all labeled with your child’s name. Breast feeding mothers need to provide both a supply of expressed milk for the day and two servings of milk to be kept frozen for up to one month at the center. Each time your infant is fed, a separate, unused bottle should be provided. Your child’s bottle should be plastic and include a cap/lid and each piece to each bottle should be clearly labeled with your child’s name. Containers of baby food may be kept at the center but, once opened, the unfinished contents will be returned home that evening. All bottles, sippy cups, dishes, and utensils will be rinsed and returned for sterile cleansing each evening. Toddler Nutrition Guidelines We have found that most children like ‘finger foods’ as an alternative to a traditional ‘lunch box’ meal. Plastic food containers are a great idea for packing fruits & vegetables, cheese, chicken pieces, pasta leftovers, and more. All food should be ready to eat, cut into manageable pieces, and easy to swallow. Our programming encourages nutritionally balanced and wholesome foods. We strongly discourage commercial, pre-packaged lunch meals which tend to be ‘empty calories’ and laden with preservatives. (Lunchables, Chef Boyardee, Hormel and other high sodium options) All children enrolled under the age of 18 months will need to bring their daily supply of beverages, meals, and snacks. Each classroom does have a microwave to reheat warm dishes.

Alternate Snack Items (if diagnosed with food allergies) Daily supply of: • Nutritious Lunch • Backpack or Tote Bag—‘wear proof’ label • Complete change of clothes (2 sets) • Sunscreen • Outdoor Gear –swimsuit, towel, water shoes/ socks ‘wear proof label’ • Medication with Medication Form Completed (if applicable)

• • • • •

Rest Items: Pillow (must be a small pillow that fits inside child’s cubby) Pillow Case Blanket Stuffed Animal/’Lovey’

Appropriate Daily Clothing Your child’s day will be brimming with interactive, hands-on fun! Dress should be casual, nonrestrictive, and seasonal. Please check the forecast each morning and prepare an outfit accordingly. If it has just rained, please pack boots for puddles and mud; windy days would call for jackets with hoods etc. When looking for indoor and outdoor clothing, please choose items that are durable, comfortable, and washable that are easy for your child to put on and take off. This also includes shoes! Crocs, platform, heeled-soles, and open flipflops hinder toddlers learning to walk and often trip or blister older children. Children at KidsCo Jr. often get dirty or messy during projects and outdoor activities. Washable clothes that can get dirty or messy are the best options.

Pre-K Summer Supplies

(18 months -5 years) Please bring the following things labeled with your child’s name. In most cases a permanent marker works well to label disposable items and please note which items have been indicated to have a ‘wear-proof’ label. There are several companies online in which these may be purchased and here is a helpful link to one were you can find high quality ‘wear proof’ labels: www.mabelslabels.com Weekly supply of: Diapers, Pull Ups, Underwear, & Swim Diapers Changing Wipes, Diaper Cream, & Sunscreen

KidsCo Junior Infants - Pre-K

Additionally, children should have two complete sets of seasonally appropriate and well fitting clothes complete with underwear, socks, and an extra sweatshirt to leave at the center. Don’t forget to label items with your child’s name and replace items that go home to be washed. Rest Items Each child will be given a rest period even if they choose not to nap. Every day, a pillow, blanket, pillow case, and ‘lovey’/special item should be available to each child. Families may pack these items on Monday and they will be sent home each Friday for laundering. Additionally, we request that all pillows be labeled and small enough to fit in your child’s cubby. This typically is more convenient for families because we can send just the pillow case for washing and the actual pillow can stay in your cubby. In following appropriate sanitary and hygiene practice, large bed-size pillows are not permitted. Preschool Nutritional Guidelines Nutrition is an important part of healthy development. If your child has special dietary needs or any food allergies, please make us aware upon diagnosis. Please make sure all lunch boxes, bags, and containers are labeled with your child’s name. All of our lunches are kept in the children’s cubbies so we suggest that you use an insulated bag with either ice packs to keep food cool and a thermos to keep warm dishes warm. We will augment the lunch that you bring with a variety of healthy choices for breakfast, morning and afternoon snack. Whole milk, filtered water and 100%

juice are offered at each snack time. Each family will receive a monthly menu of snacks to be served.

Frequently Asked Questions Who will be working with my child?

Each of our team members is considered our most valuable resource and has been hand chosen to work with your children. All team members are valued, appreciated, and encouraged to have input into the program to foster ownership. Many of our team members are Maryland State Credentialed which includes two times the number of required continuing education training and professional activities within the community. Background checks and KidsCo Orientation training are also mandatory.

What types of measures are in place to keep my child safe?

KidsCo Jr. has many procedures in place to ensure the safety of everyone on site. Safety measures include fire drills, CPR and First Aid training, identification policy for guests to pick up a child, emergency preparation, and monitored entries.

What if it’s really hot or rainy?

Along with the season comes heat, humidity, 4

and rain! Our camp is based outdoors and days are planned around an activity rotation. Many activities are set-up outside in the grassy areas, tree shade, playgrounds, blacktops, and surrounding woods. Each group will rotate through our Game Room and our Craft Corner within our building which is air conditioned. We combat the heat by getting soaked during lots of water activities, having planned breaks to drink plenty of filtered water inside and from water coolers posted outside, through a thoughtful balance of active and restful activity, and by practicing proper sun safety such as wearing sunscreen, loose clothing and hats. Rain days are a rare treat where we have a special schedule indoors. If just friendly showers are present, we may venture into the puddles and mud!

bikes & trikes, cooking/art project, and more! • Water Events: Our Water Days are packed full of cool, wet activities; pools, sprayers, color mix, water slide, water art, bucket races, sponge toss, pipe builds, beach time, bubble pools and more! • Culminating Theme Day: Each week, we will celebrate our theme with an amazing culminating event on Friday. Activities and special events will include a Guest of Honor who will bring the excitement and experience of a field trip, or huge party to wrap up our theme! Families are warmly welcomed to attend and have fun with us at these events!

What will my child enjoy at camp?

Along with a new and exciting theme, each week is packed full of activities! Water Day, Picnic Lunch, and instructors from FunFit are scheduled around awesome activity rotations such as group games, sensory tables, tricycles, parachute time, and more! To enhance each theme we also have two art projects and an amazing Guest of Honor who brings the adventure of a field trip to us each week. • Theme Events: These are group activities that are all about our weekly theme! We could build a giant fort for Build It Week, experience a creek exploration for Great Outdoors Week, look for hidden treasures during Pirate Adventure Week, or even tie dye for Beach Week! • Picnic Lunches: Every day, our preschool campers enjoy lunch in the shade under the trees. Big blankets are laid out and we chat about our day and enjoy the summer weather. Typically, we will eat lunch around 11:00am each day and ask parents to bring lunch foods that do not require a microwave to prepare. We will provide plates, utensils, hand wipes, and books to read as we finish up. • Campwide Fun: At this time, we will all come together for a group game like Freeze Dance, Kickball, Tiger Tag, Swamp Monster, Mr. Alligator or simplified field sports! Also enjoyed are activity choices such as nature walks, outdoor art, scavenger hunts, Reading Rainbow,

shirts! Once again KidsCo will offer a UV protective, “rash guard” style swim shirt. These shirts provide heightened visibility on water trips as well as a higher level of sun protection for your camper. We have chosen a bright, fun color this summer marked boldly with our KidsCo logo for visibility. We require that all campers wear their current 2013 KidsCo trip shirt on all Wednesday trips. If your child forgets his/her shirt on field trip days, you will need to purchase another shirt for them to wear ($20). Shirts will be given to campers on the Wednesday of their first session.

Hours: 7:00am - 9:00am & 3:30pm - 6:00pm Extended care is a time to chill before and wind down after a busy day at camp. During extended care, campers will have an opportunity to use the gymnasium, our game room, and play outside. In the afternoon, KidsCo will provide a light snack.

What Should I Bring To KidsCo Day Camp? Each day please have your child bring: • Backpack or bag for belongings • Bathing suit • Towel • Sunscreen (be sure to apply each day before camp) • Lunch and drink labeled with your child’s name (lunches will be stored in coolers)

• On Tuesday and Thursday pool days we eat an early lunch, so we encourage parents to pack an extra early afternoon snack

Swimming

We will be heading to a recently renovated Summit Hall Water Park in Gaithersburg every Tuesday and Thursday! It has a splash pad for the younger swimmers, as well as an updated big pool. It has 3 awesome waterslides in the deep end, 2 in the shallow end, and a zero depth entry pool equipped with palm trees, sprays and interactive water features! Each Tuesday and Thursday, KidsCo Day Camps will travel to the pool in shifts between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Campers will arrive back to camp at either 1:30pm or 3:30pm. You may send money with your child to buy drinks or snacks on pool days. Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child each day before camp and send an extra supply with them to re-apply at the pool. On all pool trips, each child will wear a bright KidsCo labeled waterproof wristband. As an added safety measure, “Eyes On Me” wristbands will be given to those campers with limited swimming abilities.

Wednesday Field Trips

Campers attending our Day Camps enjoy the thrill and excitement of an exhilarating field trip every Wednesday. Campers depart in the morning promptly at 9:00am for local summer hot spots and enjoy a full day exploring, swimming, splashing, sliding and much more! Campers are decked out in KidsCo UV protective, rash guard style water shirts, and Wednesday field trips give all of our KidsCo locations an opportunity to combine and spend time together away from the camp location. Staff members sport bright and visible KidsCo t-shirts, swimwear, and color-coded wristbands are worn by all for easy and quick identification.

Teens On-The-Run Overnight Trips

Returning this summer, in addition to our exciting extended Wednesday hours we are offering two great overnight trips. Weeks 2 & 7 we will be venturing out to our usual exhilarating amusement park or beach, staying late and then off to spend the night in hotel. Not only does this reduce travel time, it also allows us extra time at the venues! In the morning we will be treated to a delicious continental breakfast before being whisked away to our next venue. We are extremely excited to be offering overnight trips again this summer! If you would like more info please contact our Main Office.

Inclement Weather

We will always be “On-The-Run”, but on days when there is extreme inclement weather we will hit local restaurants, movie theaters, bowling alleys, or participate in other exciting indoor activities. Rain days end at 3:30pm. Any changes to the On-TheRun schedule because of weather or unforeseen circumstances will be emailed to families.

Trip Shirts

Our Kids and Teens will sport a newly designed OnThe-Run Camp t-shirt while traveling. We require that all campers wear their current 2012 KidsCo trip shirt on all Wednesday trips and while on trips with a late return time (these days are noted on the weekly postcard). KidsCo Camp FAQ's

• When will my child receive his/her 2013 KidsCo trip shirt?

Your child will receive his/her 2013 KidsCo trip shirt on the morning of their first Wednesday at 2013 Summer Camp.

• Does my child need money on trip days?

No extra spending money is required on trip days. While most of our Wednesday trip destinations do have snack bars or concessions on site, it is at your own discretion to send your camper with money.

• What is the staff to child ratio?

Our staff to child ratio is 1 to 10 or better. For the Pre-K and Kindergarten group, we maintain a 1 to 10 staff to child ratio or better and on water days assign extra staff members to assist with this group.

• What time will my child return to camp on Wednesday trip days? We will return to camp by 3:15pm after Wednesday field trips.

• Does my child need to bring a swimsuit and towel to camp all week long?

Yes! While Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are our off site days at the pool and water parks, KidsCo provides water activities on site such as super soakers and a slip and slide. Packing a swim suit and towel every day ensures that your child can participate in all of KidsCo’s awesome water activities.

• What happens if I forget or misplace my child’s 2013 KidsCo trip shirt on Wednesdays?

Our 2013 KidsCo trip shirts are instrumental in providing security while away from camp by making our campers easily identifiable. If you forget or misplace your child’s 2013 KidsCo trip shirt, you can purchase another one at a cost of $20.

• When and where does my child eat lunch while at camp?

Weather permitting, we eat outside in the shade every day. Lunch times vary depending on the group’s scheduled activities for the day. On Mondays and Fridays, lunch for all campers will be around 11am. On pool and field trip days lunch could be as early as 10am, depending on your camper’s bus shift. We encourage you to pack a light snack for your camper on these days and we will be happy to set aside an early afternoon snack time for the early lunch groups.

• Do you have a lost and found at camp?

Yes. Please ask your Director to point you in the right direction if your camper has misplaced something.

• What do I do if I am running late to drop off my OnThe-Run camper in the morning?

If you are running late in the morning, please call your On-TheRun camp Director to give them a heads-up.

• Do I need to send lunch money with my On-The-Run camper each day?

You definitely don’t. Campers are welcome to bring their own lunch from home each day. In addition, KidsCo will provide lunch for the entire camp on several days over the summer. Please refer to your camp schedule for a list of days when lunch is provided.

• Should I send my camper with extra spending money? It is your discretion whether or not to send extra spending money with your child. Most destinations offer concessions or souvenirs that campers will have an opportunity to purchase.
