Unit 9: Representation
from Hues of Health
by kgray26
Effects of Color on Mental Health The color wheel is the most significant form of representation pertaining to color. It is used to explain the relation, coordination, and contradiction between the different colors. While it differentiates between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, the color wheel goes deeper by defining the different color schemes that act as “guidelines” for color selection in a space and, ultimately, dictate the overall design of a space. Analogous colors sit next to each other; complementary colors are located directly opposite of each other; and triadic colors create an equilateral triangle between them on the color wheel. Using this format can lead to color selections that are pleasing to the eye. While these are not hard and fast rules, if one decides to contradict this and place clashing colors together, this can cause uneasiness in someone in the space, and if this is maximized, it can even cause stress, anxiety, and lack of focus.
