Color consumes the everyday lives of every person. There are infinite colors to choose from when making a color selection, and this can often be daunting to people, especially to someone who does not realize or understand the significant impacts color can have on a person. The human mental health cannot be simplified by events or circumstances; everything that surrounds an individual affects his or her reactions, mood, and wellbeing simply by the atmosphere it creates. Color theory explains why this is so, and it also elaborates on how designers can use color to manipulate the atmosphere of a space. This is a concept that has been explored by architects and other designers for years, including contexts such as productivity at work, reduced stress at home, awareness in learning environments, and reduced depression in personal spaces. These experimenters have observed that each color has its own language and specific impact on individuals, especially when considering other factors about each person being influenced. This explains why different people have their own favorite colors; the association they make with each color defines the ways in which they view those colors and their own life, which is a direct reflection of mental health. The ways in which people respond to colors has led to the development of this language and, in effect, color theory.
