Christmas Charity Year 8 have had a busy term working together on a charity project in PSHCE. Our thanks to those parents who were press ganged into helping at the very successful Late Night Shopping event at which both 8A and 8D were impressively organised, motivated and business like! In addition, all four classes had charity stalls at the Borlase Christmas Market, demonstrating some early entrepreneurial acumen, and raising significant funds towards all the charities they have selected to support this year. So far this year, 8B have held two events to raise money for our charity: Walser's Tanzania Charity. The first event was a cake sale on the 27th of November which raised a great total of £37.31. The day after we had a stall at the school's Christmas fair, which included a tombola, which raised a great deal of our money; face painting, a board game and wristbands. Altogether we raised an amazing £300.10. Our total therefore was £337.41. Our charity is all about raising money for children in Tanzania. The charity aims to help them get a good education and learn essential life skills. Natassja Krajewski 8D's Late Night Shopping Event was in aid of The Link Foundation, a small local charity providing everyday essentials such as school shoes, beds, clothes and food for disadvantaged children in our local community. What started as a small idea managed to grow into a practical plan for the night. Our stall included the bottle tombola, the 'Guess the name of the Giant Teddy' and the glow sticks we were selling. Under the fantastic Link Foundation gazebo, the stall was soon up and running, and attracting customers. Thank you to everyone who came down and supported us, and particularly to Mrs Rogers, Mrs Powell and Mrs Allanson who helped organise and set up the stall. Also a big thank you to Mrs Tolson for giving us lots of ideas and for helping us to manage the stall, which resulted in us raising an astonishing £350 for The Link Foundation. We are extremely pleased and this money will go directly to help children in poverty in the local area. Ben Allanson On 5th December, as part of their Class Charity work, 8A had a stall at the Marlow Late Night Shopping event. We were selling jewellery, key rings, glasses, cakes, and we also had a Lucky dip to raise money for our chosen charity, ‘BEAT’ (working to beat eating disorders). Everything sold very quickly and we finished the night with very little of our stock left! The night went well, despite being cold the rain stopped before we had to set up. We raised a grand total of £307.77! A big thanks to Stewart Grenyer for lending us the gazebo and tables, and to the parents who supplied the handmade items we were selling. Thanks to everyone who came to our stall, even if you did not buy anything, we really appreciated it! Toby Hill

Great Ormond Street Hyperinsulinism Christmas Party The 2013 Christmas party went ahead on Saturday 30th November and was attended by 60 children with Hyperinsulinism and their families. I would like to thank all staff, students and parents who very generously donated gifts towards the party. All children went home with a gift from Father Christmas and had a wonderful time. I would especially like to thank the following 6th form students who attended the party, helped out with food, decorations, running a tombola and even acting as Father Christmas himself and his elves. They were a credit to themselves and the school and I have received many messages of thanks from parents and staff at the hospital. So thank you again to Colm Kennedy, Aaron Bhalla, Keegan Curlewis, Shona Brittain, Annabel Bench, Jess Duguid, Lucy Duguid, Laura Herbert, Imogen Stilwell, Berenice Cunningham-Walker, Rhiannon Moss, Anna Peters and Ocean Allen. Christmas Fayre Thank you to all the parents and pupils who came to the Development Office's stand to throw pasta at the Above and Beyond Fund of their choice! Miss Williams showed the greatest skill and the jar with the most pasta in was for the Changing Rooms Fund.
