since we have yet to practice anything but zone offense,” said Colarusso. On attack, Ella Marsden, Alexis Martin, Sara Roth/Allie Ancheta (switched out for a 50/50 game) Macey Harrelson along with midfielders Ava Swanson, Kaylee Stoky and Natalie Dixon set up and moved the ball “absoluety 100 percent better than I have seen them in any of their other games,” Colarussa said. “We were able to move the ball and work the defense to get in 10 goals working plays that we have been working hard on,” Colarusso said. “After tonight they have seen what they are able to accomplish and I hope they take this into the games to come.” Arianna Oliver also played for varsity this game, and after not letting in a single goal in the JV, she only allowed 4 in and saved 6. — Contributed

A free screening of the film “A Plastic Ocean” will take place Thursday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Founders Park Community Center, followed by a panel discussion to address green solutions in the Florida Keys. The event is sponsored by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Surfrider Foundation, Reef Relief, Islamorada and the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce. A Lead-By-Example Expo will be from 3:30 to 5p.m. on the Great Lawn at Founders Park. No registration is required. The expo is an opportunity for local businesses to meet with vendors of biodegradable and other green alternatives to learn how to decrease single-use plastics and make the switch to more environmentally conscious products. In the center of the Pacific Ocean gyre, researchers found more plastic than plankton. “A Plastic Ocean” documents the newest science, proving how plastics, once they enter the oceans, break up into small particulates that enter the food chain where they attract toxins like a magnet. These toxins are stored in seafood’s fatty tissues, and eventually consumed by us. “A Plastic Ocean” was filmed in 20 locations around the world to document the global effects of plastic pollution and introduce workable technology and policy solutions that can, if implemented in time, change things for the better. Seating is limited. Please register to attend. FKCC hosts open house Florida Keys Community College invites prospective students and their families to any of three open house events at the following FKCC locations, dates, and starting times: • Upper Keys Center: Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m. • Middle Keys Center: Wednesday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. • Key West Campus: Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m.
