MARATHON BEATS KEY WEST Home game played in front of big, loud crowd

The Florida Keys Celtic Festival , St Columba Episcopal church and the Hammock House would like to thank our sponsors, volunteers, the city of Marathon, including the Parks and Recreation Department for making the 2019 Florida Keys Celtic Festival such A huge success, and a fantastic event for the city of Marathon. We could not have done it without your tremendous support.

arathon High School coach Kevin Freeman said last week's 77-62 home win over Key West was a fun game. “I thought the crowd was unbelievable; that may have been the loudest I have ever heard that gym since it opened in 2007," Freeman said. "Our team fed off their energy.” MHS made some big plays down the stretch to pull away — a Jamal Qualls dunk followed by a Jackson McDonald dunk spurred the win. Qualls finished with 36 points and 6 rebounds, Jackson had 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Steven Hernandez had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Marathon plays Somerset Academy Silver Palms at home Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. The rematch between MHS and KWHS is Feb. 6 in Key West. — Weekly Staff report
