Welcome to Key Chorale’s 39th Season

When we say, “One of a Kind,” we are highlighting what makes Key Chorale unique. Our creative ingenuity and collaborative spirit are the special sauce that goes into each and every program. These are programs you cannot experience anywhere else in the country. They are cultivated and crafted into imaginative collaborations that linger well after the final curtain call. They are performances that entertain and enlighten in powerful ways and fill your soul with joy.

This season you can experience a U.S. premiere by an Iranian composer based on an ancient Persian love story, be swept away by the Argentine Tango, be immersed in the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach, and awe-struck by the spine-tingling harmonies of Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen. Combine that with dynamic collaborations with The Sarasota Ballet, The Circus Arts Conservatory, Artist Series Concerts, Modern Marimba, and The Venice Symphony and I know you will agree, Season 39 is truly “One of a Kind.”

Organist Sam Nelson comes from a long lineage of red-blooded Bach interpreters. This concert will feature Sam playing some of Bach’s most well-known organ works in a way that you’ve never heard before; all on Church of the Redeemer’s pipe organ—the largest pipe organ in Sarasota. Forget all your preconceptions about organ music and bask in the kaleidoscope that is the music of Johann Sebastian Bach!

A rare opportunity in Sarasota—baroque music on instruments made during the time of J.S. Bach. Gut strings, musical delicacy and nuance, and buttery tonalities will all be a part of this special chamber music concert. Featuring multiple harpsichords and a baroque chamber ensemble on period instruments. The concert concludes with Bach’s most musically complex motet for SSATB and continuo, Jesu, meine Freude, BWV 227, performed using one voice per part.

Jesu, meine Freude (Jesus, my joy) Featuring soloists Mary Wilson, Lily Wohl, Thea Lobo, Matt Morgan and David Tinervia

Voices, trumpets and timpani ring out with joy as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach’s mighty Magnificat. Soprano Mary Wilson’s dazzling coloratura extends to a heavenly high C in Bach’s only cantata scored for solo trumpet and soprano. Plus, the Chamber Singers’ luminous voices soar bringing out Bach’s dramatic and antiphonal effects in his double choir motet.

Cantata No. 51, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen! (Shout for joy to God in all lands!) BWV 51

Featuring Guest Artists Aaron Romm & Mary Wilson

Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf (The Spirit gives aid to our weakness) BWV 226 Magnificat in D Major BWV 243
