Bernard William Dutka

Bernard William Dutka, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrate at St. Cecilia Church, Kearny, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Dutka was a lifelong Kearny resident.

Bernard served in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1960.

He was employed as a messenger for Valley National Bank in Kearny for 10 years before retiring. Prior, he was and agent for the IRS in Newark, for 15 years and before that he was a tool maker for RCA in Harrison.

Mr. Dutka was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He is survived by his sister, Emily Sawyer.

Bernard was predeceased by his parents Charles and Antoinette (nee Zarnowski) Dutka, one brother Charles Dutka Jr. and brother-in-law Ronald Sawyer.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Pelissier

Charles “Chuck” Pelissier died Jan. 10, 2022.

He was 78.

Born in Passaic, he lived in Kearny for many years.

Visiting was at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny. His service was at the funeral home.

Chuck had his Blue Seal license and was a maintenance engineer for Toys R Us in Mount Olive.

Beloved husband of Linda (nee Potocki) he was also the loving father of Cheryl Dziobkowski (her husband Joseph) and Matthew Pelissier (his wife Rachael). He is also survived by his brother Joseph and grandchildren Charlotte and Ryder.

Michael McGinn

Michael McGinn, 57, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022 in University Hospital, Newark.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Church, Kearny, on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

Born in Newark, Michael was a lifelong resident of Kearny.

Mr. McGinn is survived by his siblings, Maryanne Carson (Greg), John McGinn (Luzia) and Mark McGinn. He was the grandfather of Jayden and Dylan Morales. Michael was predeceased by his daughter, Julia McGinn and his parents, John and Sheila (nee Gallagher) McGinn.

Mary N. Caruso

Mary N. Caruso, of Harrison, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022.

She was 101.

Private services were under the direction of Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison.

Born in Newark, Mary was a lifelong resident of Harrison. Mary and her husband Gennaro owned Caruso’s Tailor Shop in Belleville for 21 years. Later, Mary worked as a sales clerk for Hahne Company in Newark and, most recently, was a lunch aide for the Harrison Board of Education. Mary was also a dedicated volunteer for many years at St. Anthony’s Church in East Newark.

Mary loved spending time with her family. She was an amazing cook and always enjoyed making dinners for her family and friends. On Sundays, she would make homemade pasta and “gravy.” Mary also loved going to Atlantic City and playing the slot machines. She was a diehard New York Yankees fan and knew more statistics than most people.

Mary is survived by her son Thomas J. Caruso, granddaughter Danielle Caruso, daughter-in-law Sheila Caruso and Thomas’ fiancée Joanne Byrne. She was predeceased by her husband Gennaro J. Caruso in 1977, a daughter Theresa Caruso (2018) and her siblings, Nat, Sam and Josephine Cardea and Grace Lombardo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601, in loving memory of Mary N. Caruso.

His buddy Kearns feels the same way.

“I feel the best I’ve felt in a long while,” said Kearns, who has recovered fully from ACL knee surgery two years ago. “There’s no issue at all with the ACL. I feel like I’m totally healthy.”

And Kearns and Guerriero work out together regularly with the hope of getting the call from a USFL team in three weeks.
