Reinterpretation of the flat dome - Digital Fabrication. Research Center

University of Alcalá

[in progress] This research project is currently seeking a new reinterpretation of the ancient structure of the Thanks to the digital design, we can program a robot to place them, and secondly an flat dome used in different Spanish buildings in the XVII century, composed by a puzzle of carved stones. external frame compress the pieces to get them working by shape. Through parametric design, these geometries are designed and placed in the right position. The prototype is made of different plastics such as PLA, PETG and PC using 3d printing.

With a simple manual and few people, the house can be assembled. It works with a simple any given urban context. The Makerteam developed a pavilion and designed their own construction based modular-based structure: milled plywood frames. The basic Makerhouse is built out of 17 frames, offering workspaces for eight students. The structure can be equipped with additional elements depending on specific urban requirements.

The underlying concept of our pavilion is an origami-based structure, whose motion derives from a popular children’s toy Our object converts the beauty of such a swinging movement in a technologically attractive, retractable, lightweight and self-supporting widespread along central European coastline tourist shops: The flying bird mobile - A wooden bird consisting of a two suspended sculpture. The exhibit allows Expo visitors to interact with the mechanisms and initiate the rocking motion of the pavilion themselves. wings and a hinge-connected body piece. Once the cord attached to the body is pulled, the bird starts flapping its wings gently. The Pavilion was designed using parametric tools and fabricated by deforming polycarbonate panels and several molds.

Magic Spheres 2.0 is a pavilion designed for the Valentin Bunker in Bremen and also as a summer pavilion for Central Park. Artificial The multimedia panels are screens compounded by LEDs. They are controlled by a computer, which can change the perception of the light, sound and perception can be controlled to create different scenes. The space is compounded by different sphere sizes place. Magic Spheres turn on or turn off at the park, where camouflages itself. In addiction, the “virtual space” created by the panels connected through footbridges. The panels are made by different materials: translucent, with polycarbonate panels or textiles, and can be digitally modified by users using different sensors inside the pavilion or watching the show programmed by digital artists. multimedia panels.

The purpose of this project is to prove that, thanks to the architectural definition. It is interactive. The movement of people or the sound frequency are examples that we pavilion are Grasshopper, Firefly, Arduino, Slic3r and Rep-rap 3d printers. space parametrization, we can assign real and virtual variations to modify this entity. can show in the Led Matrix that surrounds the space after analyzing with sensors.

“Al fin una Plaza”, located on the top of the A-42 highway in Madrid is more than a parking garage, it aims to avoid the current [This project was presented at Madrid Cityhall, November, 3rd 2016] contamination in the city and connect the two parts of the highway. This building tries to leave the cars out of the city and collect them all along on the highways. This project revitalizes the Plaza Elíptica. It is also connected to the subway and bus station and provides a Plaza with temporary uses.

Thanks to the Research Grant from the Ministry of Education, during the academic year 2016/17 I was leading a Parametric Design Workshop at the University of Alcalá. The workshop was being led in parallel with the drawing course: “Taller de Dibujo II” at the School of Architecture, which teaches mathematical procedures for the development of 3D graphics. The workshop provides tutorials and guides for participants using Grasshopper. Over 40 students took this workshop.
