People and Places Sue Lydia Taylor Alfred East Art Gallery 14th March – 25th April Local artist Sue Lydia Taylor is an established painter in oils for over 20 years. This exhibition visually describes the diversity of ordinary men and women engaged in work situations and depicts some of the places the artist has visited. Kettering Buccleuch Academy Alfred East Art Gallery 21st March – 2nd May Students from Kettering Buccleuch Academy have taken inspiration from their local community and its surrounding beauty and have created work through art and design to curate their own exhibition. This exhibition has been made possible by the generosity of the Kettering Old Grammar School Fund.

‘Paula, Gwen and Dora, the hidden lives of three women artists’ By Sue Lydia Taylor Friday 24 April How a historical appraisal of the lives of three women artists can give us insights into the art world of today. Churchyards, Cemeteries and the Victorians - Black Feathers to Black Underwear By Kevin Varty Friday 22 May The Victorians had a preoccupation with death and many churchyards were full and in a terrible state. This talk shows the effects that the opening of the new cemeteries had on Victorian attitudes to death and mourning, illustrating the incredible growth of the funeral industry at the time. The story of the Wallis and Linnell factory in Brigstock By Bill Simon Friday 12 June Wallis and Linnell were an important clothing manufacturing company in Kettering. This talk covers the early days of the firm and the history of its Brigstock branch.

Eleanor is the small finds officer at NCC and holds regular sessions at the Manor House Museum.
