What’s On in Kettering

Welcome to your third edition of What’s On, bringing you the highlights of exhibitions and events happening in and around Kettering. The Museum and Art Gallery will then close for Christmas and New Year and will re-open on Tuesday 2nd January 2018 at 10am.

RA250 & Charles Spencelayh 60th anniversary Kettering & District Art Society 112th Annual Exhibition Alfred East Art Gallery 7th October – 11th November

Selected works will form part of this exhibition, featuring a range of techniques, styles and mediums, making this show appeal to a wide audience.

Room 23 Simon Shadowshow & Barnaby Darling Alfred East Art Gallery 18th November – 6th January Preview: 17th November, 6 - 8pm A mixture of photographs, video art, constructions & painted media. Influences range from Daido Moriyama, Charles Bukowski, Genesis P-Orridge & Friday night epiphanies room whiskey bottle wisdom. :

Alfred East Art Gallery 19th January – 24th February Charles Spencelayh’s exhibition continues to 10th March This exhibition features works from the permanent collection and celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the Royal Academy, and commemorates the 60th anniversary of Charles Spencelayh’s death.

Focus on Photography 18 Corby Photographic Alfred East Art Gallery 28th February – 28th March The displayed pieces will showcase the talents of the club’s members, from beginners to experienced amateurs who value traditional photographic techniques and embrace the latest digital technology.

The Great War: Seen through Magic Lantern Slides By Kevin Varty Friday 17th November This Magic Lantern presentation shows how illustrations of the Great War, seen by the Home Front, were heavily censored due to the Defence of the Realm Act.

Tea & biscuits: A day to celebrate the Co-op Saturday 25th November 11am - 3pm

From opticians to operatics, discover how the ‘Shoe Grocers’ of Kettering came together to shape the working and family life of the town. Including personal stories and donated objects, this exhibition celebrates the story of the local Co-op movement.

Kettering & District Natural History Society November Started in 1905, the society covers all aspects of nature including plants, animals, birds and geology through meetings and walks in the countryside. All are welcome to the meetings.

Community Space New Community Space at the Museum! With funding from Arts Council England we are developing a new Community Space. From March 2018 we will have lots of space for community displays. The infamous witch from folklore both frightens and fascinates us yet behind this image lies a story of paranoia and persecution. This exhibition looks at some of the political and social views which led up to several hundred witch trials between 1500 and 1800 and their devastating results.
