Design should never say look at me. IT should always say, look at this. ~ david Craib

about me Hi! My name is Kerron Hamblin. I am passionate about design! I work as a freelance graphic designer where I focus mostly on corporate identity and branding for startups, print design, copywriting and advertising. My designing style is simple yet elegant. I try to come up with the simplest and most creative solution to any problem while staying within

the client’s parameters. When I’m not behind a computer screen, I like to be outdoors, either walking, jogging or hiking. I also like creating things with my hands ( you could that I’m vey hands on! Hahaha!). Below is a small sample of the projects that I have worked on recently. I hope you like what you see! Kerron J. Hamblin

project description The client wanted a logo that both represented her handpainted fabrics business as well as exhibited her love for painting and art. A playful colour palette was used to illustrate the owner’s personality with art slotches behind a monographed capital F to give a fun yet sophisticated feel to the brand. A strong type face was used to inspire confidence.

project description This particular project was a rebranding of the represent the coming together of two cultures in Jamaican Association of Barbados. The client one space.. wanted a new visual representation of the Association that would be easily identifiable to Jamaicans living in Barbados without using obvious symbols like flags. The result was a visual identity that comprised both the Jamaican national colours and national bird. Two separate fonts were used in the title “JAMBAR to both visually and metaphorically

Colour does not add a pleasant quality to design - It Reinforces it.

project description The client wanted a print advertisement for use in a supplement commemorating the 45 anniversary of Barbados’ independence but they did not want a stereotypical layout with fireworks or Bridgetown since the store was located outside the capital. In keeping with the fact that the client was a men’s fashion store, we opted for a simple layout with a model in a dark suit and the Barbados flag in the background to give a patriotic feel.

all problems are solved by good design.

project description The client wanted a print advertisement to highlight the store’s Christmas campaign and sale. The design was to look festive so that the ad could be run for both Christmas and new Year’s without tying it to either specific period. The use of stereotypical Christmas or New year’s themes, such as the colour red, snowflakes, reindeer, Santa Claus or fireworks, was explicitly prohibited. In order to make the design appealing, while

following the client’s requirements, a blue bokeh effec background was created. A sans serif font was used, along with a stylized font to express timelessness and class.

project description The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award needed a T-shirt design for their upcoming regional camp Code Name: “Journey to a Greener Barbados”. An environmental theme using iconic greening symbols was selected to keep the design simple and modern. The concept shows four figures journeying from a polluted landscape to one where environmentally friendly practices have been implemented.

project description This t-shirt was designed for a museum programme where participants would travel to Dominica for a whale watching tour. The client wanted a design that would appeal to a younger market and one that would not be dated by the trip so that it could be sold in the gift shop after the tour. The resulting design was a T-shirt design that met the client’s needs, while maintaining a youthful appeal.

Description The Jamaican Association of Barbados wanted a ticket and flyer design for a reggae evening that they were hosting. They were not entirely sure about what they wanted but they knew that they didn’t want it to look “stuffy” and the design should clearly represent Jamaica. To achieve this, a patterned grunge background was used, superimposing an image of the featured artist and using a movie poster typefont to convey the feeling of a concert.

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Barbados

Description The client required a professional bid proposal document for the Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council’s (CASC) regional expedition in 2013. A die cut of the logo for the camp was created along the top right of the proposal cover to make the document stand out and to create visual interest. This proposal went on to be the winning bid for the regional camp in August 2013.

Description This travel guide was created for the Barbados Museum’s Whale Watching Tour to Dominica to give participants an idea of what to expect on the tour. The client required an aesthetically pleasing, professional document that presented the information in an easily accessible format so that it could be referred to a glance. This was achieved by breaking the text into small blocks, highlighting the most import pieces of information through the insertion of coloured elements.

WHALE BEHAVIOURS

Whale Watching

Surfacing behavious are quite common among marine mammals. Below are some of the surfacing behaviours exhibited by whales. BREACHING A breach is a genuine jump with an intent to clear the water. Sperm whales perform a breach by traveling vertically upwards from depth, and heading straight out of the water. Others, such as the humpback whale, travel close to the surface and parallel to it, and then jerk upwards at full speed to perform a breach.

Dominica is the Whale Watching capital of the Caribbean. During the peak season of November through to May, visitors have the opportunity to see the 22 different species of cetaceans that grace the island’s waters at an 80% sighting rate. SPYHOPPING

Here a few of the whales that you may see on the trip.

When spyhopping, the whale rises and holds position partially out of the water, often exposing its entire rostrum and head, and is visually akin to a human treading water. Spyhopping is controlled and slow, and can last for minutes at a time if the whale is sufficiently inquisitive about whatever (or whomever) it is viewing.

LOBTAILING Lobtailing is the act of a whale or dolphin lifting its flukes out of the water and then bringing them down onto the surface of the water hard and fast in order to make a loud slap.

LUNGING A lunge is the result of a fast upward sloping swim, perhaps as a result of feeding, that has caused the whale to clear the surface of the water unintentionally.

BRYDE’S WHALE

TOOTHED WHALES The toothed whales (Odontoceti) are characterized by the presence of teeth rather than the baleen of other whales.

BALEEN WHALES The baleen whales or great whales (Mysticeti) Baleen whales are characterized by having baleen plates for filtering food from water, rather than having teeth.

Logging is a behaviour that whales exhibit when at rest. It is defined as lying without forward movement at the surface of the water. The dorsal fin or parts of the back are exposed.
