Wade Mountz 1924-2020
Wade Mountz served faithfully on the KWC Board of Trustess from 1978-2000 and became a trustee emeritus in 2001. He was administrator of Norton Memorial Infirmary in Louisville from 1958-1969 and after the merger that created Norton-Children's Hospital in 1969, he served as president until 1981 and then as president CEO of NKC, Inc., (later renamed Norton Healthcare) until 1988. He served in many leadership capacities in Kentucky and nationwide, including president of the Kentucky Hospital Association and chair of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees. He received numerous awards for his many professional achievements and gave generously of his time to mentor others. KWC honored him with the Gus E. Paris Distinguished Service Award in 2000.
Jack Wells '77 1955-2020
Jack Wells was a dedicated KWC trustee from 19942020 and served as chair from 2001-2005. He ironed sheets at a local nursing home when he was 15, and five years later he purchased his first nursing home. He owned the Canteen Franchise for most of western Kentucky and southern Indiana and has owned retail centers, medical, pharmaceutical and respiratory distribution companies, including the largest long-term care company in Kentucky. He was a partner in the development of many areas in downtown Owensboro and other parts of the city. He served on a number of nonprofit boards and received many awards for his generosity and service to others. KWC honored him as an Outstanding Alumnus in 2011 and with induction to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2014.
