With nearly a decade under its belt, women’s apparel line Bailey / 44 is ramping up its brand awareness in a major omnichannel way. As part of that strategy, Bailey tapped KPA to design its brick and mortar presence, including the first free-standing store within Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach, CA. The 1,700 SF space will resemble a chic, modern interior with white furnishings, wood and metal fixtures, and doors that open

out onto a courtyard. In this location, Bailey / 44 will partner with NY-based Bastille Flowers to provide fresh cuts. As a sneak peak into this design concept, KPA opened a shop-in-shop in Bloomingdale’s NYC flagship this September. A few weeks later, KPA debuted the brand’s temporary popup booth at the Coterie Trade Show. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the Newport Beach location, of course.

6,000 SF larger than H&M’s 2nd largest store on Fifth Avenue, the Herald Square location is a whopping 63,000 SF. The four-story outpost features a 35-foot glass façade with a LCD screen, mirror and terrazzo detailing, as well as a 30-foot atrium. Befitting its status within H&M’s retail fleet, the store features cutting-edge technology, such as heat sensors in the fitting rooms and “try and buy” stations that enable immediate check

out if you like what you see in the fitting rooms. The flagship is a “fullconcept” location, meaning it carries every range of product —including beauty, accessories, active wear, and home wares—each with its own designated section. KPA was Architect of Record.

creating synthesis between retail and corporate spaces In September, KPA completed the corporate offices for Harry Winston, a luxury jewelry brand. At 21,000 SF, the Harry Winston offices reflect the design of the brand’s retail concept and features an elevator lobby, reception and lounge as well as a custom open office system. The lobby is clad in white marble, with gray stone atop the elevators. The use of marble extends to the reception and lounge, where a glass

feature in custom Harry Winston blue welcomes visitors. Past the reception, the interiors of the office are simple, clean and modern with an emphasis on allowing light to pass through via glass partitions. Similarly, in the executive suite, large windows not only let in daylight but also look out onto the Harry Winston boutique on Fifth Avenue.

At 16 separate buildings totaling 6 million SF, Industry City in Sunset Park is poised to define or redefine industrial redevelopment in New York City. As part of this larger development, KPA is designing the first and second floors of Building 1 for multi-tenant retail. The main challenge of this project was to convert a portion of a historic industrial site, whose purpose was manufacturing, warehousing, and

distribution, into a dynamic retail experience. In order to ensure that ground floor retail is at eye level for pedestrians, the design pulls back the façade of the building 10 feet to create a covered and elevated arcade on the ground floor. The arcade will be accessible by steps or ramps, and from there pedestrians can enter the interior retail space on the first and second floors.

Located at 520 Boadway, Michael Kors’ three story flagship in SoHo is the largest in the world for the designer. The boutique combines accessories, a curated footwear salon, the women’s ready-to-wear collection, and for the first time ever, a floor dedicated entirely to menswear. To differentiate this retail landmark, the men’s floor is marked by separate design touches like grey marble fixtures, black leather wall

panels, and very sleek furniture– such as a black leather pool table. In contrast, the rest of the flagship showcases a bright, modern interior with glass, metal, and white marble fixtures. As Executive Architect, KPA has seamlessly implemented Michael Kors’ identity into over 250 open air centers and street locations throughout the United States and abroad.

Opened in March 2015, Tourneau’s third brick and mortar store in New York City’s Bryant Park serves as the brand’s new design concept for all future locations. Located on a corner lot, glass window displays comprise two walls of the boutique, creating a light-filled space. The interior is anchored by a rounded floor layout, with fixtures wrought in materials such as Makassar ebony and bronze. A fiber optic

dome comprised of 500 different sized “stars” mimics the night sky while “tick” marks on the ceiling pay homage to classic timepiece designs. KPA provided architectural services to develop store design, in-store graphics, merchandising themes, and brand identity. KPA has worked on more than 100 stores for Tourneau throughout the United States and internationally.

introducing our new and improved digital platform As architects, we spend our day designing and bringing to life physical spaces, but we do know the digital realm is really the most exciting frontier of our times. This fall, KPA was excited to announce the completion of our new website. The renovation was comprehensive, from content to design. In fact, we started from scratch and we really believe the new website does justice to the work that we do. It’s full of great

imagery of our projects, is interactive and easy to navigate. We also renewed our commitment to a blog, so that you can keep up to date on all the events and news that’s happening at KPA. So, if you’re not familiar with us, or if you just want to get to know us better, take a gander and don’t hesitate to reach out. We don’t bite!

repositioning a fifth avenue building for future tenants KPA provided core and shell services for 445 Fifth Avenue in Midtown. As the architect for property owner Thor Equities, KPA developed the initial design concept for the exterior facade of the building’s commercial portion, which consists of the first and second floors. In addition, we provided exterior alterations to commercial storefronts, designed a new interior layout, and made structural and MEP upgrades. The goal of the renovations

was to bring the property up to standard and to redefine it for future tenants. To that end, we believe we very well succeeded. 445 Fifth Avenue currently houses national retailer Charming Charlie’s first New York City flagship.

babies! k pa fa mily

it’s raining babies in our ny and la offices! We’re constantly growing at KPA, and in more ways than one. Sure, new employees come and join the team, but this year, two of our team members--one in Los Angeles and the other in New York--welcomed new additions to their family. Abigail Cervera welcomed a baby girl into the world and a few weeks later, Clarissa Molina gave birth to a boy. There’s nothing we like better than an excuse to throw a baby shower, except for

maybe adorable baby photos. It’s a toss up.
