The New Kenmark Eyewear THIS YEAR HAS BEEN QUITE THE BUSY ONE HERE AT THE KENMARK EYEWEAR HQ. FROM OUR NAME, LOOK, AND MISSION, WE’VE COMPLETELY REBRANDED. ALL OF OUR VARIOUS NEW BRANDING ASSETS WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE THE MODERN, FASHION-FORWARD IMAGE THAT OUR COMPANY NOW EMBODIES.

PAST COMPANY NAMES INCLUDED “THE KENMARK GROUP” AND “KENMARK OPTICAL.” TODAY, WE CALL OURSELVES KENMARK EYEWEAR. THIS NAME CHANGE WAS PROMPTED BY OUR GROWING DESIRE TO BECOME PRIMARILY KNOWN FOR OUR WELL-CRAFTED, FASHION-FORWARD PRODUCTS. THE DEPARTURE FROM THE TERM “OPTICAL” IS INTENDED TO HELP EXPAND OUR HORIZONS BEYOND PURELY MEDICAL ARENAS AND ALLOW FOR GROWTH IN OTHER AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY THAT LIE IN THE FASHION WORLD.

nearly half a century ago in 1972? It would be an understatement to say a lot has changed within our 45 years in business; just look at these vintage advertisements as proof! HERE ARE SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT OUR JOURNEY TO BECOME THE COMPANY WE ARE TODAY:

´´ We were originally founded as "Kenmark, Optical, Inc." ´´ We've had 3 Chief Executive Officers: Mark Kerman, Don Howard, and Mike Cundiff. ´´ Current CEO, Mike Cundiff, joined Kenmark in 1983 as warehouse manager. He was promoted to COO in 2000, before being appointed CEO in 2013. ´´ June 2007, Kenmark became 100% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. ´´ We have had three corporate headquarter locations. ´´ We launched our license with Timex in 1999; Vera Wang in 2002; Jhane Barnes in 2006; Dana Buchman in 2007; Lilly Pulitzer in 2008; kensie in 2009; Penguin in 2011; and Zac Posen in 2015.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES? When I first started out at Kenmark in the Product Department, I focused on the Zac Posen men’s and women’s collections. I worked closely with David to develop ideas and designs for new styles to grow the collection. I also communicated with the factories daily monitoring sampling up until production. Now on the marketing side, I am working with some of our other brands, building and maintaining those relationships. I’m getting to see a broader perspective of how the company works!

This year, we were a proud sponsor of the St. Jude 5K Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, held on September 23, 2017. While the company donated $1,500 to the charity to become a sponsor, several inside employees set out on a mission to match the company’s donation! While it was challenging at times to keep the momentum going and raise that much in out-of-pocket donations in a short time frame, our efforts paid off as we reached our goal of raising $1,500 to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital the morning of the event! On that beautiful Saturday morning, many of us woke up bright and early to support the amazing cause and walk/run 3.1 miles around Beckley Creek Park in

to help?” Being a company of 100+ employees, it’s not difficult to imagine the impact we can have if we all come together and contribute to the relief efforts of any tragedy. Kenmark Eyewear’s Marketing Director, Marissa Cundiff, took this notion and came up with a strategy where everyone in the company had an opportunity to donate to the relief efforts, and earn themselves a vacation day at the same time. Oh, and Kenmark would match whatever the company raised! Moral satisfaction, meet personal benefit. Individually, we each gave a little; but as a team, each of our small actions added up to be something much bigger! Thank you all for your generous contributions. You made a difference!

Homemade Bath Melts Sweater weather is great, but the changing of the seasons can often be tough on our skin. While it’s a relief not to swim in your own sweat for a few months— dry, itchy skin isn’t exactly the alternative we hoped for. If you know the struggle all too well, then we’ve got the perfect DIY for you that will combat that dull, winter skin. This DIY is also kid-friendly and each recipe makes approximately 9-10 bath melts. Not to mention, it’s a great gift to give for the holidays!

MOISTURE RICH MILK AND HONEY BATH MELTS TO SOOTHE

Here's what you’ll need: ´´ ⅓ cup mango butter or shea butter ´´ ⅓ cup almond oil ´´ ¼ cup honey ´´ 1 cup powdered milk ´´ ½ cup powdered milk (for rolling)

Here's what to do: 1. Melt the mango butter, almond oil and honey together in a glass bowl set into a small saucepan filled with boiling water. Do not get water in the mix. 2. Stir in 1 cup of powdered milk. The mixture will be slightly crumbly. 3. Measure 2 tablespoons of mix and roll into tight balls. 4. Place bath melts onto wax paper or parchment paper to cool. 5. Roll bath melts in ½ cup powdered milk for a decorative finish. PHOTO AND RECIPE BY BLENDID.COM
