Digital ministry / Kenelm youth trust Annual Report 2020/2021
Setting sail on a digital sea… O
ne of the pandemic’s great opportunities and areas of growth for the Kenelm Youth Trust has been the development of digital ministry in ways we had not even dreamt of before 2020. During 2021 we have continued to develop and re ne the ways in which we use technology and digital platforms to evangelise, accompany, support and encourage young people who have not been able to access many of the groups, places or resources that would normally be available to them. We o cially launched KYTv, a half termly YouTube show, over Pentecost weekend. Hosted by two young adults, KYTv is a chat show format with live guest interviews, teaching, news and stories from around the Diocese and a heavy dose of fun. KYTv celebrates young people and their contribution to the world and the Church. As we grow the core team and respond to feedback, KYTv will evolve and take on a life of its own, spurred by the energy and vision of the
young adults who are volunteering to make it happen! The youth ministry team in Alton have had the opportunity to develop skills unique to digital ministry; learning how to use live streaming software, how to present on camera and on Zoom, leading small groups and games in a new format. This skillset is highly transferable to in person ministry, but also distinct. We are currently exploring the scope for part of our work with the youth ministry team to have a speci c focus on outreach and digital ministry as we look for ways to develop our digital ministry, meeting young people in the online spaces of which they are native. For much of 2021, Mass in person was not possible for everyone, whether due to Church capacity,
Chimuka, a KYT volunteer, interviews a guest as part of live stream, broadcast to celebrate Pentecost an individual’s vulnerability or personal choice. For this reason, KYT has continued to live stream Mass on a monthly basis during term time. We have had positive feedback from people of all ages about what a life line this has been for them. For many, it has been a way to remain connected to a vibrant faith community and their faith at a time when it was most needed.
