Page 1, Q1. Please rate the following statements about the Conference location:

1

in terms of date, I would really prefer beginning to Mid-July. Then, we could integrate the insights of TECNA into our respective annual planning.

Aug 30, 2012 4:40 PM

2

Two full days -- wednesday and Thursday would be better

Aug 30, 2012 2:27 PM

3

Preference would be to have sessions run full day Thursday and Friday with TECNA business taking place Saturday morning, conference ending at Noon Saturday

Aug 30, 2012 10:25 AM

4

The frequency of flights made an earlier start time possible - might be interesting to try that; I suspect MSP will be similarly accessible

Aug 29, 2012 11:54 PM

5

a bit longer overall would have been great.

Aug 27, 2012 9:44 AM

6

Content really only covers 1.5 days. More time for tactics in program and focus around interaction/staff engagement and problem solving. Spend less time on philosophy/panel dicussions

Aug 26, 2012 12:15 PM

7

The booth locations were perfect.

Aug 24, 2012 1:21 PM

8

Hotel should not have charged for wifi in rooms. Maxine was not happy!!!!!

Aug 24, 2012 12:37 PM

9

Hotel and Food were outstanding !

Aug 24, 2012 11:57 AM

10

Important to treat time at TECNA as professional training and not run the conference into the weekend. Should like to see us encourage staying for Friday night dinner, and Saturday option in the area. This would enhance the conference experience even more, in my opinion.

Aug 24, 2012 10:57 AM

11

appreciated the free wi-fi in the meeting area - but cell and wifi reception was not strong

Aug 23, 2012 4:27 PM

12

Conference begining Tuesday night ending Thursday would be best

Aug 23, 2012 1:23 PM

13

Any west coast location would be challenging for air fare and connections, so Seattle is no worse than others in this regard

Aug 22, 2012 11:57 AM

14

in-room wifi was fast, but going to a tech event I would have assumed we'd have it included in the price of our room - certainly at such an innovative hotel

I thought that the music that was playing and would increase in volume as a person's time ran out could have been handled better. It was a bit distracting, although I completely agree that some kind of time check needs to happen in this type of setting.

1

It was really good to connect with others around issues we care about. I liked that we got to interact. We were rushed and I'm not sure the content from the session was that helpful. It was more about the connections made.

It was so loud in the room that it was hard to have a conversation at your own table. My discussion leader was fairly unprepared and it wasn't clear what we were supposed to be able to present to the group. I would have preferred an opportunity to discuss various topics instead of just one.

I found the answers suggested were fairly obvious: know the names of your sponsors, give them opportunities to speak, provide them value, not all sponsors see "value" the same way -- so the session provided little value to me. Would have been nice to make this optional for those who work directly in sponsorship/partnership and provided other sessions for those who do not.

Page 1, Q15. Thursday August 9 - STAFF Stream - 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM The "Why" of it all: Does your programming match your value proposition? Everyone moderated by Mike Monroe (WTIA)

1

In this one, I believe we were assigned groups -- and many people where in groups outside of their areas of focus, which isn't too valuable. I think it's better to put people in groups (or let them chose there own) that match what they are interested in and what they are working on. They get a lot more value that way.

Sep 4, 2012 3:05 PM

2

The breakout sessions with peer learning opportunities are of the greatest value for staff; more sessions like this with fewer plenaries would likely provide greater value for participants

Aug 28, 2012 9:25 AM

3

Facilitators were great and the VP from Seattle who led the staff streams was very energetic, knowledgeable and kept the group on task and engaged. Well managed and extremely helpful

Aug 26, 2012 12:15 PM

4

This session was not relevant because I did not have a dynamic group about the topic. But the idea was good.

Aug 24, 2012 11:57 AM

5

Heard strong comments from my team that the Staff Track was too light and not meaty enough. Without strong Staff program, may not be worth bringing 2 team members like this year. Thanks for re-evaluating this.

Aug 23, 2012 5:32 PM

7

I would have preferred time to discuss all of the avenues, not just one, as all of them were relevant to my work within my association. It was also unclear what the final presentation was supposed to look like, and there were no group moderators.

Aug 23, 2012 1:48 PM

8

I would have loved to speak aobut all of these issues again with my functional area peers. I would have loved to touch base on all of them in the context of my job.

Aug 23, 2012 6:53 PM

loved it - best opportunity for networking and got to see some of the sights!

Aug 23, 2012 4:27 PM

16

Thought it was wonderful of CompTIA to open the bar -- that definitely opened up the conversation and got people celebrating. If an open bar wasn't the plan all along, it would have been good to know that long before boarding, as several of us did not bring cash.

Aug 23, 2012 1:48 PM

17

Fantastic networking opportunity, loved it.

Aug 23, 2012 1:23 PM

too long and too late in the conference. it would have been good to have 5 minutes sprinkled throughout.

Aug 30, 2012 2:27 PM

2

I think there's got to be a better way to get value from this than a survey walkthrough if it's got time on the agenda. Perhaps pick 2-3 highlights or unexpected results and focus on those?

Aug 29, 2012 11:54 PM

3

I think it might be better to circulate these results rather than present them formally at the conference; unless we do it at the beginning and use the results as a way to drive discussion or identify subjects for the conference

Aug 28, 2012 9:25 AM

4

It would have been interesting to see some of the results prior to the conference, rather than at the end

4

I'd like to see more simultaneous breakout options so that if an organization brings more than one person, we can gain twice as much information by going to two sessions at the same time as opposed to everyone going to the same session.

Aug 30, 2012 9:24 AM

I would like to know how other associations segment their data, send emails, market their events. What software they use, what they like and don't like, where they see success and where they don't. I know that the "why" is important, but for those of us on the ground, the "how" is important too. There wasn't enough time to discuss functional operations among peers and the people who actually understand my unique challenges as a marketer in a tech association.

Future of tech conversations would have been good. It's important to know where the industry is going and how we can help or not help.

I would have loved to have a presentation style session on membership structure and marketing. Not necessarily a session where everyone speaks, but we two or three examples (which were submitted before the conference) to present to the group as best practices.

Survey people four months before and create one whole day based on demand

Sep 4, 2012 5:14 PM

2

Yes, I think there is a lot of opportunity to make this event more valuable and inspiring for the attendees. Here's what I would do if I were running it next year... >Line up a ton of EXCELLENT case studies through out the conference on various topics that you KNOW (take a survey far in advance) people want to learn about. Include plenty of time for Q&A at the end of them. These could be on topics such as: partnerships, sponsorship, member growth, retention strategies, amazingly cool events (inspire us!), board development and engagement -- most of what I got out of the conference I learned from side conversations about these types of things -- things that matter to me. I want to know what others are doing and how it's working them. I want killer case studies with all the specifics the audience wants. > unConference style sessions where we circle up in a room and people get up and present their topics and then people can do to any session that want to -- any one that is of interest to them. This is such a great model. It might some scary, but it really works. >Provide a creative way to connect people who have similar roles -- marketers with marketers, membership with membership, etc. Like a bird of a feather lunch or cocktail tables. > NOT have so many panel discussions. Those get so old. You need to break it out. I would say really limit this and try some other approaches. > Find way to infuse energy and inspiration into the event - maybe bring in a keynote speaker that can talk about something amazing to do with technology -not about associations, but about what inspires us about technology -- what's the future look like -- the kind of people we get to keynote our tech events! >There is a level of leadership that is not represented in the CEO or staff tracks. What about the executive teams from these organizations. I would recommend doing a session for the CEOs and Execs that would benefit the whole team. Maybe you get a team building coach to come in or get a few teams up on stage who work really well together and get them to talk about their framework, what they've learned, etc.

The working sessions were valuable, but rushed - could definitely have used more time, adjustment of group sizes or other changes to get even more value

Aug 29, 2012 11:54 PM

8

The Friday sessions seemed more applicable to the CEOs and it might have been better for there to be a continuation of the staff streams for the non-CEOs that day. Would have allowed for more idea sharing in areas that are applicable to my job.

Networking seemed light on first night and then we all splintered off - need a few venue choices to help the groups get focused. Seemed like it started with a bit of a fizzle.

Aug 24, 2012 10:05 AM

Aug 23, 2012 9:04 PM

24

More interactivity ... Consider unConference format..

Aug 23, 2012 6:53 PM

25

The thing to improve would be: -The program must include more time with our actual peers – the CEOs get to spend lots of time together but I only spend 40minutes with the events & programs managers! -The organizers should be negotiating wireless in all the room with over 2 night stays (especially at 4180/night)! -2 days conference instead of 1day and a half – the Thursday morning sessions should have lasted the entire day -Not all sessions were relevant to the general audience – it should have been communicated prior the event. (e.g: The Board Chair’s perspective was a great idea but it certainly didn’t apply to the general staff)

how they do it. Allow more time for discussion, separate the staff stream from the CEO stream more and allow the staff to discuss tactics more than "high level" ideas. 30

I wished there were more panelists from the tech council constituencies than the Tech Council staff executives.

Aug 23, 2012 1:41 PM

31

The high level, panal discusions were not of value to me. As a staff member, the value came from meeting with my peers and discussing the similar issues we face and how to overcome them. I believe that this should be the majority of the conference, and the panal discussions be kept at a minimum to a few very pressing topics. This is the type of networking you want to do, so let us take notes and exchange best practises.

Aug 23, 2012 1:23 PM

32

Could probably streamline the EC meetings. Like to see a bit more "all" sessions

Aug 23, 2012 1:14 PM

33

My staff member said that the staff sessions where disorganized and not very useful.

Aug 23, 2012 1:10 PM

34

Most folks want practical ideas/templates/etc. - so continue to focus the agenda on those things, and it will drive value for attendees

Aug 23, 2012 12:16 PM

35

Biggest thing to be improved on would be the organization of the staff that is coordinating the conference. I feel as though there were way too many mis-steps taken, this survey is a good example. I was not even registered for the event, even though I had the email conversation to back my registration. I also felt as though the staff (who were not part of facilitating a session) were just standing around talking or drinking starbucks. It seemed to be a good time for them to network and be involved with the conference if nothing else. My improvement suggestion, would be to make sure the execution is flawless next year. If there are mistakes, the only people who should know are the staff, not the attendees.

I almost bagged on the TECNA conference because I had so much going on and it was a cross-country trip, but I decided to go and I'm SO glad I did. The very best part of being there was meeting others who are walking in the same shoes I am. I got incredible value from the side conversations, in between sessions and in social times.
