DIRECTORS JOHN SHAFFER DIRECTOR

John Shaffer is in his seventeenth year as the vocal director and show choir director at El Paso Gridley High School in El Paso, IL. John graduated from Illinois State University in 2003 with his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and in 2009 with his Master's Degree in Music Education. John loves his job at EPG and is extremely grateful for the community support for the EPG music program. He directs the Junior High mixed group (Dynamics), the high school unisex group (Hi Fidelity), and the high school mixed group (Modulations). The Modulations have won ten grand championships and several caption awards in John's tenure at EPG and they look to continue to build the tradition of excellence. John treasures spending time with his best friend (and beautiful wife), Nicki, as well as chasing his three young ladies around - Lauren (14), Alexis (12), and Chloe (7). John's three passions are Jesus, family, and Butler Bulldogs basketball.

GUS JOHNSON COMBO DIRECTOR

Gustav Johnson directs the Jr. High and High School show choir combo bands, and plays baritone saxophone in the combo for Modulations. This is Gustav’s fifth year teaching band at El Paso Gridley high school and Jr. High. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Illinois State University, where he studied bass clarinet and clarinet with Dr. David Gresham. He has performed in numerous university and community ensembles, and continues to enjoy creating music through performance and composition. Gustav is married to fellow combo member and music educator Brenda Johnson, and is grateful every day for her undying patience and pun-derstanding attitude.

MUSICIANS TREVOR GOULD TRUMPET PLAYER Trevor Gould graduated from Illinois State University with a Master’s in both Trumpet Performance and Jazz Performance and currently serves as the auditorium director for the ISU School of Music. While studying, his responsibilities included recording technician, trumpet section leader, wind ensemble section leader, lead trumpet in jazz, graduate brass quintet member, and symphony orchestra trumpet.
